ANTS has been an island mainstay since Ushuaïa opened its doors almost a decade ago. Its colony has helped put this party at the top of Ibiza’s club offerings. You won’t find many better open-air events in the world and for this year, Ushuaïa has pulled-out all the stops with its new Metropolis megastructure. World-class production, world-class music at a world-class venue: ANTS always delivers. For this season opener, the colony turned-out in force. Here’s what went down in the Metropolis.

Davide Squillace was the first to greet our ears as we made our way through the crowds and into the breathtaking open-air setting. With the planes flying high above, Squillace was taking us on a journey of our own. As always with ANTS, the finest techno and house bangers were laid-out for the season. Rebuke’s Jump Ship had the beachfront venue bouncing. Squillace – as ever – was bringing that typical Ibiza sound to one of Ibiza’s best parties.

As the sun set and red fog seized the mega-sized dancefloor, ANTS’ Metropolis production power was apparent. The huge city structure turned-us into insects as we stomped to the sounds of Nic Fanciulli. Star by Nic and his brother Mark brought back Saturday memories from last year. Fanciulli was giving us a taste of what’s to come at his DANCE OR DIE residency later this season. Excited is an understatement.

Now it was time the closing set. Andrea Oliva – who has been a part of the colony from the very beginning – was handed the task of leading us into the night. Throwing down the very best in house and techno, you always know Andrea Oliva will deliver at ANTS. Although he wasn’t discovered on the island, the Swiss selector has been synonymous with the worldwide party brand and his sets have soundtracked ANTS events across the globe. To see him back at Ushuaïa was a real privilege and when he dropped Krystal Klear’s timeless Neutron Dance, the whole of Playa d’en Bossa went nuclear. You wouldn’t believe the energy – fortunately, there are 17 more Saturdays for you to feel it yourself.
