If you’re a fan of art and love your dance music, chances are you’ve already discovered Newcastle based artist Davey Brown. His portraits of some of the finest electronic dance music talent hang in the homes of many of the DJs themselves. His ability to capture the essence of a DJ during a performance is one of the foundations of his success and with six exhibitions already under his belt, he is getting ready to return to Ibiza, To Las Mimosas, a recent addition to the Mambo Group portfolio, where ‘The History Of House’ exhibition will be displayed o September 5.

History Of House 005

Davey Brown showed an early talent for art at school but it wasn’t until an accident forced him to quit his job as a decorator that he returned to the format. Other childhood passions, football, film and music, would shape the direction of his new found appetite for painting, with actors, footballers and DJs offering the subject matter. Early portraits that caught the eye included Robert de Niro, Alan Shearer and Frankie Knuckles. Davey Brown’s Ibiza return is sponsored by the Mambo Group, and sees him deliver his next exhibition at the stylish Las Mimosas Hotel, with legendary Ibiza DJ Alfredo sound tracking the event. The exhibition is called ‘The History Of House’ and will feature early US house pioneers Larry Levan and Frankie Knuckles, as well as iconic clubs and parties and more than a nod to the significant impact Ibiza has had on the global house scene, featuring UK based DJs such as Paul Oakenfold, Danny Rampling and Judge Jules, as well as the new breed, including the Mambo Brothers.

History Of House 002

After Ibiza the History of House exhibition will make its way around the UK, stopping in Edinburgh, Birmingham, Manchester, Dublin, Belfast, Durham and Hull as well as Glasgow’s iconic Sub Club on December 29. Davey is also writing poetry to complement the story and there will be DJs sound tracking each event and rare footage of classic raves and clubs from back in the day. It’s the ultimate nostalgic look at the people and places behind the scene we all know and love and a chance to pick up one of these exclusive portraits of your favourite DJs. To celebrate the Ibiza exhibition, The Mambo Group, Davey Brown and Future Past Clothing are offering you the chance to win a VIP trip to Ibiza.
