Ibiza is an island full of superlatives, but one venue that constantly blows them out of the water is the stunning Hacienda Na Xamena and its beautiful La Posidonia Spa. It’s a destination that is well known to many island residents and visitors long before their first visit, thanks to its preceding reputation and the unbelievable pictures you find on social media and travel websites.

Nestled into the cliffs near Port de Sant Miguel in the rural North of the island, the boutique lifestyle hotel is surrounded by woodlands and accessed via a climbing mountain road, making it the perfect hideaway from the hustle and bustle of Ibiza’s lively hotspots.

We visited the famous venue for an afternoon of relaxation and pampering with friends at the adjacent La Posidonia Spa by SkinCeuticals, which is open to visitors who have booked one of the three day packages. Each includes 45 minutes in the spectacular Cascadas Suspendidas outdoor pool area and the choice of either one natural juice and three healthy tapas for 75 Euros, a three-course set lunch menu without drinks for 95 Euros or a three-course set dinner menu without drinks for 110 Euros. All of the meals are held in the pretty terraced Eden restaurant, which offers beautiful sea views alongside tasty food.

As soon as we entered the spa area, which is totally separate from the hotel facilities, we were overcome by a sense of calm and serenity. While we perused the treatment menu, we were offered a refreshing wet towel sprinkled with essential oils of our choice, getting us into the mood for some serious pampering. The Posidonia Spa exclusively uses products by brand partner SkinCeuticals, a famous skincare range in the US. Part of the L’Oréal group, the luxury cosmetics company was born from decades of skin cancer research that led to pivotal breakthroughs in antioxidants, with its high potency formulas proven to penetrate optimally into the skin. Used by dermatologists, plastic surgeons and medi-spas for daily homecare and to complement aesthetic procedures, the products aim to correct signs of ageing, protect healthy skin and prevent future damage. To offer guests interested in a facial the ultimate bespoke service, they can have their skin analysed for sun damage, impurities and other issues in a special machine that uses UV light to show imperfections otherwise invisible to the eye. Based on the examination, the therapist creates a personalised treatment and product plan. It is important to note that these services are not included in the general spa package and have to be booked and paid separately.

After cleansing the skin, a scrub was applied, giving our complexion a deep cleanse before applying soothing and nourishing creams. The techniques used were unlike any we felt before, with gently tapping finger tips reminding us of the summer rain falling on our face and a gentle massage of the delicate eye area erasing weeks, if not months, of late nights and staring at a computer screen. Under the dimmed light, with the candles’ glow, fragrant aromas and relaxing music filling the room, it was almost impossible not to nod off. Gently coming round after the ultra-soothing facial, which left our skin clean, purified and glowing, we were led into the cosy relaxation room to regain our senses over a warm cup of tea. Catching up with our friends, who had opted for a full body massage that can be targeted to an area of your choice, they told us they had an equally wonderful experience. Focusing on the tight neck and shoulders of one of our group members, they said they found the kneading delicate, avoiding to put strain on existing injury, while loosening up the tense muscles and releasing pain.

Excitedly, we realised it was time to head to the famous Cascadas Suspendidas for our 45-minute water therapy. Built into the mountain 180metres above sea level, the area consists of eight neighbouring pools heated at different temperatures which provide high pressure hydro jet massages starting from the soles of your feet and finishing with your head. Overlooking Ibiza’s rocky coastline and dazzling Mediterranean waters, the view is even more breathtaking than you might expect, even if photographs have already left you speechless. Moving through each basin in a particular order, you get closer and closer to the infinity edge until you are suspended between sea and sky, a truly once-in-a-lifetime moment.

With our rumbling stomachs reminding us that it was time for lunch, we met our friends in the Eden Restaurant, which, part of our package, served us a healthy, light and tasty lunch. We started off with healthy juices and a sharing platter of starters including beetroot gazpacho, ham croquettes, grilled octopus, salmon tartar with papaya, and a cauliflower and curry mouse. We were also able to add some vegetarian options on request.

For our veggie friend, a giant heirloom tomato was filled with an avocado and onion mousse. Sitting on one of the higher levels of the terrace, we overlooked the beautifully preened hotel pool area and the sea glittering in the background. A selection of desserts including crème brulee, an éclair filled with mango coulis and a chocolate marquis that looked like a brownie but surprised us by having the chewy texture and soft taste of a marshmallow truly had us feeling like we were on Cloud Nine. And, indeed, sitting high atop the White Isle’s cliffs, heaven truly isn’t too far away at Hacienda Na Xamena – both in actual distance and sentiment…
