Sunday night in Ibiza and all eyes are on Pacha as Solomun invites Peggy Gou to be his plus one. The talented producer and DJ’s release Starry Night has been played up and down the island this season and, going back to back with the giant Diynamic boss is the latest chance to showcase her incredible talent. With friends on island from Asia for the first time, specifically to catch Solomun, it promised to be an eventful introduction to the clubbing capital.

Pacha Ibiza is still one of the world’s most famous discoteque; no matter where you go, talk to anyone with an interest in electronic dance music and Pacha is a familiar name. Case in point, our visitors from South Korea and Singapore who had travelled 16 hours to catch their favourite DJ at one of the most famous clubbing spaces. The marina area was busy and vibrant as we dropped in early for drinks. We were going to make sure we were in the club as early as possible to feel the energy as it goes from empty to full. There was a bit of a queue to be negotiated but it didn’t take long and we missed the mayhem of the slightly later crowd descending.

The Pacha refurbishment that took place before the 2018 season has given a clubbing legend a new lease of life and transformed the already impressive main room into a complete different animal altogether. Solomun Plus One has always operated with the DJ booth on the main floor, in fact rumour has it that the success of the Sunday night and the booth placing had an impact on the thinking behind the remake. With the booth on the main dancefloor, and the ability to look the DJ in the eye, well apart from Solomun who cuts a dominating figure behind the booth, it takes an already lively atmosphere and super charges it.

Both Peggy Gou and Solomun smashed it respectively, the sheer joy on Peggy Gou’s face as she dropped some of the phatest beats on an eager crowd was worth the admission. This is an artist that is lost in her craft, immersed in the music and a shared experience that sees her dancing almost as much as we are! When Solomun takes his place I the booth, however, I fear my Asian friends may spontaneously combust with excitement. He proceeds to show exactly why he is their favourite spinner as he takes the floor on a journey packed with driving basslines, hypnotic loops and thumping beats. It was the perfect introduction to Ibiza and one that they will never forget. For Solomun, he looks forward to welcoming DJ Tennis on July 21 and for Peggy Gou, we can’t wait until our next opportunity to share the floor with her. Amazing talent!
