Although it is a relatively rare occurrence, we have to accept the fact that even on a sun-drenched Balearic Island like Ibiza it does rain sometimes. While April can bring overcast skies and a miserable drizzle before the weather heats up in May, in September and October the White Isle can experience some spectacular thunderstorms and soak-you-to-the-bone rain showers.

If you find yourself getting caught up in a bad weather spell during your time in Ibiza, fear not! Although the island is famed for its beautiful beaches, al fresco dining and dancing and many outdoor activities, there are still some things to be enjoyed when the climate doesn’t play nice. We have rounded up a selection of rainy day activities to keep yourself, your friends and family entertained when it rains in Ibiza.

What is the obvious solution when it is cold, windy and wet outside? Lolling around in a hot tub, sweating out toxins in a sauna or relaxing in a fluffy bathrobe with a good book in one of Ibiza excellent spa and wellness centres, of course. And why not treat yourself to a massage or beauty treatment while you’re at it? Zentropia in Playa d’en Bossa is open every day from 10am until 8pm and costs 20€ for 90 minutes access for guests of Grand Palladium Ibiza or 35€ for non-residents. Other great spa options include Revival Spa at Aguas de Ibiza, Open Spa in the Ibiza Gran Hotel and Can Curreu Hotel Rural & Spa, although it is advised to check if they are open during the low-season.

Visit A Museum Or Exhibition

With a fascinating history that dates back to 654 BC and a thriving art scene, you can while away the hours by immersing yourself in the culture of the island. The Necrópolis del Puig Des Molins, for example, is the Western Mediterranean’s best preserved ancient city cemetery and home to not only elaborate tomb systems, but also a museum that houses religious and historical artefacts including statuettes of the Goddess Tanit, earthenware and jewellery. Just a short walk away, the Contemporary Art Museum (MACE) in Dalt Vila exhibits the work of artists from all over the world as well as local talent across four levels in what used to be the military store room of Ibiza Town. Next to the Salinas Nature Park – and its famous beach – awaits La Nave Salinas, a building that was originally intended to become a storage space for salt but has been turned into a gallery space by collector Lio Malca. Previous displays have included works and installations by Keith Haring, Bill Viola, Marco Brambilla and Kaws.

EscapeRooms Ibiza

Crack The Escape Room

A great adventure for the whole family to enjoy, Escape Rooms Ibiza offers four different games in Ibiza Town. You and your team will be locked in a room for 60 minutes and use your collective brain power and intuition to find clues, solve puzzles and mysteries, decipher codes and lookout for hidden objects to make your way out. From a classic Sherlock Holmes detective game to a fantastical Wonderland adventure, a mad scientist’s experiments and even a zombie apocalypse, it’s a thrilling way to escape the bad weather!

Hunker Down In A Cosy Restaurant

When all else fails, what better way to warm up than tucking into hearty comfort food and sipping on a soothing glass of red wine? And if the eatery of choice has a fireplace to snuggle up next too, even better! For ultimate rainy day cosiness we recommend Aubergine just outside of Santa Gertrudis, Cas Costas on the road to San Josep, Can Caus for the meat lovers amongst you, The Boathouse in Cala San Vincente, the newly revamped Las Dalias Bar by the famous hippy market or – one where you can sip on medicinal Hierbas Ibicencas – Bar Anita in San Carlos.
