The most spangling of Ibiza parties, Glitterbox reached the end of its last season at the global party mecca Space Ibiza, but it didn’t do so without a massive bang accompanied by multiple explosions of rainbow glitter. The world-touring brand threw its already infamously decadent, wild closing bash, keeping alive that untamed streak that runs through Ibiza’s past and present.

The atypical tropical storm that hit Playa d’en Bossa on Glitterbox’s final show definitely did not rain down on anyone’s parade at Space and only went to show that nothing stops indefatigable carousers. It was party as usual at the super-club on Friday, regardless the downpour, as the final night of the spectacular event shone even brighter in the stormy night. If anything, the rainstorm galvanised the glitterbox-party-animals’ determination in getting down. And down they got. Unstoppable through the torrential rainfall, the sparkly party kings and queens took Space’s edition of Glitterbox by assault one final time, the club thumping full force before 1am with the irresistible electronic disco house and glam show that stupefy its aficionados and anyone present alike.

After Purple Disco Machine got the crowd up and going with his characteristic deep funk, Dimitri From Paris took the Terrace for a space-ride through a universe of disco and house that proved overpowering to the distinctly joyful crowd of the beloved Defected backed party. With disco classics the likes of Diana Ross’s ‘No One Gets the Prize’, Donna Summer’s ‘Last Dance’ and every hit in the book, Dimitri fueled an already exuberant crowd, as dancers in slam glam drag and exorbitant heels presided over the dancefloor. Huge disco balls shimmering over the crowd hailed back to the beginning of the disco age, and everyone danced his/her rear-end off in glitter galore, as scintillating dancers in pink glitter suits and ultrahigh holographic shoes joined the party, followed by smashing disco-ball-suit-men.

Covered in mini-mirrors from hat to shoes, the dazzling dance duo put on their brilliant routine as laser light beams bounced off of them creating the most spectacular effect. Engaging with, kissing and filming the crowd from the supersize stage right on the dancefloor, they pulled out robot moves before being joined by sparkly golden glitter angels, as one of the most cheerful crowds out there totally lost it. Up next, the Duke of disco, Joey Negro delivered an extensive breadth of musical knowledge. And then they were on, the Savage ladies. As fierce as ever, owning the stage, strutting their statuesque bodies while bouncing in combos of boy shorts, glitter short jackets, corsets and even stiletto knee-high boots. Playful with the gleeful participating crowd, they put on a killer routine with full-body splits in every direction and all in sky-high heels, too! Combining masculine and feminine energy in explosive sequences, the Terrace could not have been brighter and merrier.

For an even more old school sound, the Sunset Terrace turned water terrace kept on dancing with the retractable roof covering the dancefloor. With varying sized disco balls hanging above, the mini-lake that formed all around it did not deter the glittery revelers from fully engaging with DJ Pippi’s classic jams. A string curtain semi-concealing the lit Glitterbox logo shifting from hazy to bright changing colours, ‘Stayin’ Alive’ boomed through the crowd. As John Morales took over deck duty with disco version of classics like ‘Ride Like the Wind’, the Sunset Terrace saw some revelers partying with umbrellas or under ponchos that the legendary club provided, the party-village complex equipped with everything, especially the power to make it all part of the fun.

With Grammy-award nominee Todd Terry bringing the night and season to a close, the most gleeful, glitzy and obviously glittery night of the island says goodbye for this season, bidding farewell to the iconic Space venue in grand style in the process. The final Glitterbox showed one more time why the world-touring party knows how it’s done and Space how to deliver. With its simply irresistible and contagious fun, we can’t wait to see what’s next for the sparkling concept.
