An Intergalactic Extravaganza: First DJ Set From Outer Space Broadcast In Ibiza Posted on August 22, 2019 Words: Jason Eybe share this tweet this The White Isle has seen more than its fair share of crazy, over the top parties since it became the unofficial clubbing capital of Europe many moons ago. Yet, every year, music labels, promoters and travel providers somehow manage to outdo themselves with bigger and bolder events. Last week saw a truly ‘out of this world’ electronic music experience take place on the shores of the legendary island when the first DJ set from outer space was live-streamed onto a giant cruise ship moored outside of Ibiza Town harbour. On July 13th, ESA astronaut Luca Parmitano made history when he played a DJ set directly from the International Space Station that was broadcast live to the Norwegian Pearl, a multi-level cruise ship turned into a floating superclub as part of the BIGCITYBEATS World Club Dome Cruise Edition. Setting sail from Spanish coastal metropolis Barcelona one day earlier, during the five-day route the close to 2,500 electronic music lovers aboard the vessel were treated to sets by more than 50 international DJ favourites. As well as intergalactic selector Parmitano, the likes of Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike, Lost Frequencies and Don Diablo all took to the al fresco booth on the pool deck. Around 23.20 local time, a connection was established to the Italian astronaut, who had been coached by BIGCITYBEATS resident Le Shuuk for the big moment. Using an iPad and a special version of DJapp that had to be installed NASA from Houston, he played an energetic and uplifting mix of EDM tracks. More enjoyable than his track selection, however, was the pure joy on his face as Parmitano fulfilled not only a personal dream, but also made music history. Maybe next summer we can expect an influx of little green extra terrestrians on Ibiza? Further Information: w: www.worldclubdome.com w: www.bigcitybeats.de share this tweet this
