The RESISTANCE is here. After weeks of opening party madness, one of the most anticipated curtain openers of the season has finally arrived. The stage? Privilege Ibiza – the world’s biggest club. Where better to showcase one of the best music events on the planet? With Maceo Plex, Adam Beyer, Sasha and John Digweed and more leading the charge, the RESISTANCE rolled through and shook Privilege to its core. Essential Ibiza joined the masses for this much-awaited season opener. Here’s what happened.

Sasha and John Digweed are no strangers to the island or Privilege. The pair have perfected their techno tandem over decades of unrelenting electronic music perfection. Two years ago, we had to wait from 2009 to see them join forces on Ibiza once again. They were back for another double-act of pure techno brilliance; an ode to what they’ve given the scene over the years. With two hours at their disposal, S&D were professional in their selections and expertly heightened the energy with each beat and every push of a button. With these two at the helm, you’ll no doubt reach your destination. The next stop: four hours of Adam Beyer and Maceo Plex.

With the main room packed, poised and prepped, Ibiza techno powerhouses Adam Beyer and Maceo Plex entered the booth. This was an extended set many pencilled into their calendars since it was first announced earlier in the season. Both have a unique style and ability – in different ways – to work any kind of crowd, at any kind of venue – but one thing is for certain: they both know music inside and out.

Starting in top gear, Beyer’s unadulterated Drumcode influence was apparent. His Data Point collaboration with Green Velvet and Layton Giordani pierced through the cavernous Privilege main room early on. Feet were by no means firmly planted for this one, as the pair took us on an interplanetary expedition through the techno universe. They both gave each other room to steer course, but still to the same destination. Maceo Plex made a stop at Mutant Robotics, before Ae:ther’s Dreaming Dub Remix of All I Need To Get High by Damian Lazarus. It was wall-to-wall, sweat dripping from the ceiling madness. How could you possibly wrap-up a set like this? Philippe Zdar had the answer with his quintessential Cassius Ibiza masterpiece The Sound Of Violence, respectfully and expertly remixed by Narcotic Thrust. An incredible tribute, which laid to rest a night-to-morning of perfected techno brilliance and the legendary status of one of dance music’s most influential artists.
