Walking Ibiza has just returned triumphant from its latest Around The Island experience. 13 brave adventurers set off on October 7, armed with the bare essentials and a steely determination to complete what is the most gruelling and ultimately most satisfying of the Walking Ibiza challenges. All 13 of the avid explorers – Anne Marie, Brooke, Danny, Des, Doro, Erica, James, Jeannine, Lorna, Louise, Nicholas, Richard and Toby crossed the finish line together, completing 12 days of intense walking.

It really doesn’t matter how long you have called Ibiza your home or if you regularly disappear into the wilderness on walks of discovery, if you take part in Walking Ibiza’s Around The Island challenge, you will return with the greatest sense of achievement, a much deeper appreciation of the place you call home and a lifetime of memories you will cherish. That is the overwhelming message that comes from the group that has just completed this latest walk. Circumnavigating the entire coastline of the island, retracing the steps taken by Walking Ibiza head honcho during the trip that gave birth to the notion for Walking Ibiza itself, you get to view and enjoy the island from a previously untried perspective.

The walk begins in Ibiza Town, the capital of the island, through the old town, towards Ibiza’s longest beach in Playa d’en Bossa. The target is 25km each day for 12 days and the total distance covered is 260km. Now, when you stop for a second and consider those numbers and then picture some of the parts of the journey in your head, you start to get an appreciation of the achievement that these 13 explorers have just completed. The total climb that you will accomplish during the trek is around 7000m, higher than Kilimanjaro! Camping rough most night, with a few hotel stopovers for a shower, this is as much a mental challenge as it is a physical one and our hats are off to every one of the 13 who completed the trek. Congratulations guys, you deserve it! If you think you have what it takes, sign up now for the next Around The Island trek, taking place Sunday April 19 to may 1 or visit www.walkingibiza.com and check out the other walking options.
