Taking things back a decade, WILDCHILD at HEART Ibiza is a fresh, new, nostalgia-driven party concept curated by the Game Over crew. Its idea is straightforward: going old school with some of the best acts taking a dusty dig into their record bags and spinning some of their finest from the era. On this Saturday evening by the marina, Chicago house legend DJ Sneak was invited to play a very special set for us WILDCHILD ravers. Here’s what went down as Essential Ibiza took a step back a decade and into HEART Ibiza for WILDCHILD.

HEART Ibiza may be one of the island’s more newer clubs, but its artistic clubbing canvass is unique in that each night it can transform physically and with that it can teleport you aurally with its A-grade production power and thunderous Fluge soundsystem. It may be a far cry from the sweat-laden, darkened, dusty raves from the 90s, but the spirit is what counts – and WILDCHILD at HEART Ibiza knows exactly how to capture that feeling.

Having played at some of the island’s most popular nights, holding residencies at clubs such as Space and Pacha, as well performing regularly at Hï Ibiza’s Glitterbox, Mo’funk is no stranger to a 90’s beat and for this opening WILDCHILD set, he was bringing just as much funkiness as usual. With just over a couple of hours at his disposal, the Ibiza based spinner took us on a groovy journey back in time with wicked selections such as a club remix of Colonel Abram’s rapturous Trapped. HEART Ibiza was moving to some cutting-edge tracks, dug-out, polished and played to an open-arm reception.

With the dancefloor pumping, DJ Sneak entered the booth in his usual jovial manner to get a flavour of the evening, with almost an hour to go until his set. As one of the most experienced selectors out there, DJ Sneak knew exactly how to handle the hand-over and he kept the beats fitting to this WILDCHILD night, before moving the soundtrack into his Chicago-influenced territory. Cajmere’s remix of The Juan MacLean’s Give Me Everything into Cajmere’s own Satisfy, remixed by Tiger Stripes and Pleasurekraft, paid homage to America’s north east and its rich house heritage. Sneak’s selections showed just how musical rich WILDCHILD is. It’s a night that showcases all that we love about the 90s – just leave the shell suit at home, please.
