As our collective environmental awareness continues to grow, there is an increasing interest in getting active and ‘doing our bit’ to help sustain the planet. And on Saturday, September 15th, we are all called to step up for World Cleanup Day, a global civic initiative that is encouraging people from all over the globe to get together and collect rubbish in a bid to clean our surroundings from all kinds of waste. It will begin at 10am in New Zealand and move across the globe through 24 time zones like a massive clean-up wave until it ends 36 hours later in Hawaii.Over 20 million people in over 130 countries have pledged their support already.

Following the announcement that the Balearic Islands are aiming to ban all single-use plastic items by 2020, there couldn’t be a better time to show your commitment to the cause. And whether you’re visiting the beautiful White Isle and neighbouring Formentera on holiday or you’re a resident, there are several ways you can get involved and help to protect this beautiful Mediterranean paradise! Whether you form your own ‘clean team’ or join one of the activities organised by local companies, here’s how you can take part in World Cleanup Day in the Balearics.

To clean up in Formentera, send your team details to plasticfreeformentera@gmail.comor become a volunteer by joining one of their teams. Use the hashtags #worldcleanupand #letsdoitformentera to spread the word! You can also download a special World Clean-Up app to mark trash points in Ibiza, with the aim to get them cleaned.
