You’ve worked all winter sculpting your perfect summer body. Battling through paellas, sangria and more than your fair share of cocktails; keeping in shape during your Ibiza holiday can be a minefield. Sure, you can let yourself enjoy all of Ibiza’s tasty – but maybe not healthy – delights, you are on holiday after all.

But keeping fit isn’t just going to the gym, going for a run or going to DC10 and burning your daily calorie intake to some 130BPM madness. There are plenty of other ways to stay active and stay in shape on Ibiza, all whilst having that holiday fun you deserve. Dan Cater from The Fitness Lab Ibiza has offered some expert tips on how to enjoy your White Isle getaway, without the guilt.

Think about the family

Health and fitness is for everybody. It’s about making sustainable lifestyle choices for the long term. People get impatient when they don’t see results quickly and that is what usually puts people off sticking to their fitness goals. When you’re on holiday with the family, your kids won’t want to be dragged out for a 6am run. It doesn’t happen! You can of course do that yourself, but why not look at other activities like hiking or cycling. Ibiza is a wonderful island full of natural beauty and that isn’t only on the coast. One day you could pack a lunch, get your trainers on and head for the hills. The joy you’ll get from exploring and the buzz from the exercise will leave you ready for the rest of the day and the rest of your holiday.

Getting sporty

Sport is the perfect way to keep fit and have fun. There are so many things you can do out here – just like at home – that will have your heart beating and your mouth grinning. Something like kayaking is ideal to get that holiday feeling out on the water, but also work your body to the max. There’s also beach volleyball, football and so much more. You could even meet like-minded tourists and make holiday friends for life! Sport is so inclusive and Ibiza has so many different options. So, if you enjoy lounging around the pool or on the beach all day that’s great, but look at getting in the water every now and again and move those muscles. It’ll make you feel a little bit better about last night’s double-helping of seafood paella.

Calories in calories out

Make sensible choices. There’s no real secret to staying in shape. It’s a simple formula: use more energy than you consume. Of course, you still want to enjoy some of the lovely food decadence Ibiza has to offer, but make slight but worthwhile choices when looking at the menu. Going for ice cream? Why not try frozen yoghurt with fresh fruit? Fancy a beer? How about a gin and sugar-free tonic? Do you really need a bucket size portion of aioli? Well, yes, we all do. Let’s leave the aioli out of this, shall we?

Fitness is no competition

Love it or hate it, social media is everywhere we look these days. Naturally, you’ll want to share your holiday snaps and see what your friends and family are up to, but don’t make any comparisons. Fitness is a lifestyle choice and it’s different for everybody. If you see someone up and about in the gym at the break of dawn on their holiday, that’s fine. Doesn’t mean you have to. Use Instagram as a tool to learn. Follow worthwhile fitness folk who can help you not just whilst on holiday, but for the rest of your fitness journey. Everyone is different – and that’s no exception when it comes to keeping in shape during a vacation.

Try some classes

Classes and personal training can be a fantastic way to have fun, meet people and burn some rubber! Three ticks in one go. The Fitness Lab Ibiza brings together people from all over the world and all over the island. Whether you’re a resident or tourist, young or old, out on your own or as a couple, a gym-goer or fitness beginner, each session is inclusive to all and certain exercises can be tailored to your needs. And it’s not all press-ups on the beach. The Fitness Lab Ibiza keeps it fun, friendly and full of calorie burning goodness.

Finally, don’t be so hard on yourself

We keep going back to it and with good reason. One heavy night on the town with a lorry-full of drinks and a night-ending kebab won’t undo that good work you’ve put in. Enjoy yourself and get back on the wagon. Being on holiday is all about unwinding and having fun. Again, gradually make small choices to make a big difference. Take advantage of what this island has to offer and make the best of your Ibiza holiday, without the guilt.
