He is one of the White Isle’s most prolific names on the clubbing scene, but this year saw Bob Sinclar begin a new chapter on Ibiza when he moved to HEART Ibiza to debut his concept ‘Electrico Romantico’. A name that evokes notions of the heyday of house and disco, retro glamour and a hint of hedonism fuelled by the love of music, the brand new fiesta has been a sizzling success from the word go! This week saw the French superstar bring down the shutters on the party’s first season with a spectacular finale.

It was a rain-splattered night as the first proper storm of the – at times – unbearably hot 2019 summer arrived on the shores of the White Isle. But of course that didn’t deter Bob Sinclar and his glamorous posse of friends and family as he invited us to one last boogie in the theatrical setting of HEART Ibiza. The stylish, cool crowd of electronic music connoisseurs that frequent the Marina Botafoch hotspot arrived from all corners of the island and filled The Lab – the venue’s intimate club space – all the way up to the gallery.

When we arrived, the man of the night was greeting his guests outside of the club’s entrance, looking dapper in a black suit and with his signature long locks slicked back. His gaggle of eccentric and fantastical performers, dressed up to the nines in black sequins and majestic feathered headpieces, strutted past the queue and inside the jam-packed venue. Fredelux had done an excellent job of warming up the dancefloor, with revellers dancing in joyful abandon.

UK DJ and broadcaster Danny Howard took the slot before Sinclar and kept the energy high with a pumping bassline and infectious house tracks classic and current. OFFAIAH Feat. Cat Connors’ club mix of ‘Somewhere Special’ had the whole club bouncing along to the irresistible beat, while the anthemic ‘Promised Land’ by Joe Smooth had the hairs on our arms stand up. With the venue getting ever busier, we knew that Sinclar’s arrival was imminent.

Shortly after 2.30am, the French maestro took to the decks for a special three-hour set. Greeted with the explosion of steam cannons on either side of the DJ booth and gold confetti raining from the ceiling, he launched straight into one of his own hits, ‘House Music’ featuring Ron Carroll. With people straining from the elevated gallery surrounding the pulsating dancefloor to catch a glimpse of the iconic DJ, he galloped into the early hours of the night on a dirty, fuzzy bassline that made us feel like we were in a Parisian underground club.

Keeping it fierce but funky, Sinclar had the crowd in the palm of his hand as he teased samples from vintage hits like ‘The Power’ by Snap! and the iconic Breakbeat Battle lyrics ‘there’s not a problem that I can’t fix, ‘cause I can do it in the mix’. HEART Ibiza’s sexy dancers were throwing shapes in front of the huge screen-clad walls that were showing the hit producers face on a giant scale. Surrounded by his posse of drag performers, he asked his captivated audience to ‘make some noise for my Queens’ as another burst of gold confetti and icy mist delighted the crowd. It might have been the end of his first season at HEART Ibiza, but we have a feeling that Bob Sinclar’s ‘Electrico Romantico’ success has only just begun…
