After a groovy and upbeat warm-up set from Disciples, the stage darkened with the sky during a short intermission, filled with that pre-performance suspense that was fitting to such an occasion. The superstar selector was waiting in the wings and was greeted to cheers, screams and smiles, before welcoming a packed-out Ushuaïa Ibiza to what was set to be a very special evening. Of course, with Calvin Harris, you can expect his biggest and best tunes. Going for I Need Your Love featuring Ellie Goulding early on had the crowd in embrace. This atmosphere was typically Ibiza and the international mix of people were loving every tune as Harris opted for quicker transitions, which brought the energy up a notch with every selection. Moving into a more tech-house mood after dropping Solardo’s massive XTC summer hit, the Scottish super-producer created a balanced blend of house and EDM, which kept the crowd more than pleased.

As this day-to-night spectacle reached gradually peaked towards its end, Harris had already displayed his DJ brilliance in every right. People have come to hear his own productions, but it was satisfying to see him embed them amongst other, more recent releases and revived classics that have been working their way across the island. Afrojack’s Pacha On Acid was a selection that proved Calvin Harris’ ability as a DJ and not just a producer. He had the whole of Ushuaïa Ibiza at the touch of his fingers and showed-us just why so many people have turned out to see him play. Luckily, there are five more weeks to go.
