Since its inception in 2012, Ushuaïa Ibiza’s edgiest musical offering, ANTS, has seen a phenomal rise in both popularity and its reputation for quality music on a minimal, underground tip. What started as a small party to treat the island’s seasonal workers has grown to enormous proportions and is now considered the venue’s flagship residency – and this summer ‘the colony’ was honoured with both opening and closing another epic season for Ushuaïa Ibiza. Following a two-weekend takeover at the beginning of the summer, this weekend saw ANTS bring down the curtain with a juicy line-up of b2b sessions featuring many of the concept’s long-standing family members and regulars.

With a whopping 14 DJs on deck duty, proceedings kicked off early at 12.00 noon and eager clubbers came flocking from all corners of the island to enjoy one last dance in the famous al fresco party palace of Ushuaïa Ibiza. Going all out with the decorations and production for this last hurrah, revellers were greeted by the huge ANTS truck parked right outside, with some of the venue’s own staff members dressed in black morph suits underneath their uniforms to mimic the insects, surprising us at every turn throughout the day-to-night festivities.

First up on the musical programme were Dublin and Francisco Allendes going b2b in the glorious October sunshine. The dynamic duo was followed by Eli & Fur b2b Secondcity, before chart-toppers Camelphat paired up with Solardo to keep the late summer feel good vibes sky high. Butch and David Squillace took the all-important sunset slot; at this point Ushuaïa Ibiza was already resembling an almighty ocean of people letting lose to the infectious rhythms and soaking up that Ibiza spirit.

An Ushuaïa Ibiza and White Isle legend, Luciano could of course not be missing after enjoying a prolific summer at the venue. He took to the famous festival-size stage – covered in oversized plant leaves for the occasion – with Carl Craig for a powerful set dominated by forceful basslines that hit us straight in the chest. With the intensity increased by dramatic C02 bursts, flames shooting into the darkening sky and sexy dancers gyrating on the podiums surrounding the booth, it was an experience that should not be missing from anyone’s Ibiza bucket list.

Next up, Nic Fanciulli and Steve Lawler changed the pace to a high energy, uplifting tech house fest that was simply irresistible not to dance your heart out to! Cleverly layering staccato beat basslines with vintage vocal samples and winding turbine sounds, they build the electric atmosphere higher and higher – made all the more dramatic by Ushuaïa Ibiza’s inimitable light shows. With a myriad of blue lasers cutting across the venue, and planes gliding into their descend into Ibiza above our heads, the goosebump moments were plentiful.

Who else to end the grand final than the unofficial king of ANTS, Andrea Oliva? For the curtain call of the concept he helped to nurture and grow, Oliva teamed up with Richie Ahmed, a powerful combination that demanded every last ounce of our energy as they whipped the floor into a final frenzy. Having given it our all, as the heaving crowd fevered towards the last build, the final drop and the ultimate explosion of the music merging into one with the cheers of the clubbers, it was hard not to feel emotional. Until 2019, ANTS and Ushuaïa Ibiza, when the colony will be eagerly reporting back for dancefloor duty!
