The DJ Awards 21st Edition: All The Winners Posted on September 12, 2018 Words: Olivia Ebeling Images: Tamara Sini share this tweet this Last night saw one of Ibiza’s most uplifting industry events bring together the movers and shakers of the international electronic music scene as the 21st edition of the DJ Awards got underway. As well as honouring up-and-coming talent and turntable legends, the night offered a welcome chance for peers to mingle and look back over another busy summer as the 2018 season draws to a close. Yet it was not only an important night for those who walked away with one of the coveted kryptonite trophies, but also the event itself as it entered its third decade with a new duo of presenters, and in a new location: the avant-garde setting of Marina Botafoch superclub HEART Ibiza. Taking over the reigns on this momentous occasion were Ibiza icon – and a previous DJ Awards winner himself – Graham Sahara and radio and TV presenter Katie Hayley Knight. This year’s theme for the ceremony was ‘Disco Love’, a tribute to the era that gave birth to DJs and launched the global club scene. Known for its fantastic fusion of art, entertainment and music, HEART Ibiza opened the show with a glitzy and infectious dance routine set to Village People’s Can’t Stop The Music, beginning the evening on a high before the dynamic duo of Graham and Katie proceeded to present the 24 awards. Celebrating those who have made their mark on the electronic music industry over the past year, the 21st edition of the DJ Awards saw members of the public from over 150 countries – as well as a panel of industry experts – cast their votes across 17 music categories that boasted 161 nominees. Amongst the winners were some of the biggest names in dance music, as well as exciting newcomers and tastemakers. SCROLL DOWN FOR THE FULL LIST OF WINNERS After scoring the award for Track Of The Season last year with their Grammy-nominated anthem Cola, CamelPhat took home the trophy for House Artist before shooting off to celebrate at their Tuesday night residency at Hï Ibiza. A colourful and immersive day-to-night extravaganza that has captured the imagination of the island, Story Tellers could celebrate their incredible ‘success story’ by being honoured with the award for Ibiza Music Event. Bringing girl power to an otherwise male-dominated ceremony, DJ and radio host Clara Da Costa took to the stage in crutches with a painful Achilles tendon injury to accept her award for Ibiza DJ and thanked the White Isle for her incredible journey. Newly crowned Techno Artist Ilario Alicante reminisced about arriving in Ibiza with ‘a car full of friends and dreams’ when he was 18, while first-time DJ Award winner Joseph Capriati couldn’t hold back the tears of joy upon being bestowed with the Techno Master accolade. One of Ibiza and the global music scene’s favourite faces, International DJ winner Carl Cox treated us to a little shimmy and the promise that ‘I’m never leaving Ibiza, it’s not possible! This is my spiritual home and I’m bringing the music back!’ After so many emotional declarations, the Queen of house Barbara Tucker delivered another goosebump-inducing moment when she belted out a rousing live performance of Donna Summer’s MacArthur Park, an icon she professed was ‘one of my favourite artists’. As the ceremony continued, Adam Beyer marvelled at the fact that his Song Of The Year, Your Mind, started out as a DJ tool but went on to hog the number one spot of Beatport’s techno track chart since June, with even his children singing it! On the night of its closing party, RESISTANCE scored the accolade of Ibiza Night, while Louie Vega accepted the Electronic Music Pioneer trophy on behalf of Masters At Work, telling the crowd it was always about ‘pushing the scene forward’ before thanking his wife and The Ritual co-resident Anane for 17 years of marriage on their anniversary day! The traditional family photo of all winners together rounded off the night, before the after party continued on into the early hours with sets from BLOND:ISH and special surprise guest Satori, ending an emotional and inspiring evening in style… FULL LIST OF WINNERS House Artist – Camelphat Newcomer – Alex Kennon Tech house – Patrick Topping Ibiza Music Event – Story Tellers Electronica Downtempo – DJ Koze Progressive House – Hernan Cattaneo Record Label Of The Year – Deeperfect Ibiza DJ – Clara Da Costa Bass – Andy C Trance Artist – Ben Nicky Techno Artist – Ilario Alicante International DJ – Carl Cox Breakthrough – Max Chapman International Festival – Caprices Festival Electronic Live Performer – Stefan Bodzin Trance Master – Paul Van Dyk Ibiza Night – RESISTANCE Producer – Archie Hamilton House Master – Roger Sanchez [CONTINUE BELOW] Track Of The Season – Your Mind by Adam Beyer Tech house Master – Jamie Jones Dance Nation – Argentina Electronic Music Pioneer – Masters At Work Techno Master – Joseph Capriati Further Information w: www.djawards.com share this tweet this
