Ralph Lawson Takes Déjà Vu Closing On A Space Odyssey Posted on October 1, 2018 Words: Olivia Ebeling Images: La Skimal share this tweet this After a sizzling summer celebrating the golden era of disco, filled with memories, laughter and magic, last weekend saw HEART Ibiza’s Saturday night concept Déjà Vu bow out of the 2018 season. Offering a modern twist on this much-revered era of music history, the house music party has seen genre heroes such as Studio 54 legend Jellybean Benitez and White Isle icon DJ Pippi drop in to deliver a night of uplifting, sexy beats in the state-of-the-art setting of HEART Ibiza. The Marina Botafoch superclub has enjoyed another cracker of a season on the White Isle, offering something completely unique that begins with the immersive and theatrical dining experience and ends with a carefully curated music programme offering a fresh and different sound. Headed up by resident DJ Tuccillo, Déjà Vu has been a fabulous addition to the venue’s weekly roster of parties, reliving the glory days of disco revamped with a cutting-edge sound and production. Arriving at the closing on Saturday, host Tuccillo was already busy behind the decks and regaling the keen crowd of clubbers with chunky basslines and uplifting melodies. Dancers wearing bleach-blonde, bobbed wigs and skin-tight neon glow mesh suits in orange and yellow were throwing shapes in front of the sparkling teardrop curtains, while the man of the moment himself, Tuccillo, merrily grooved along in the booth. After a quick breather and cocktail on HEART Ibiza’s stunning terrace, which overlooks the iconic silhouette of Dalt Vila and the sleek yachts moored in the nearby harbour, we were lured back to the dancefloor by the arrival of Ralph Lawson, considered a pioneer of underground electronic music and one of the best house music DJs in the world. Living up to these illustrious titles, he wasted no time in serving up an energetic set on a futuristic tip, cleverly mixing in space age sound samples into galloping basslines that had the floor going wild. He was soon joined by two dancing robots on each side of the booth, bearing TVs on their shoulders instead of a head, which surprisingly did not hinder their smooth moves at all! We were trying our best to keep up as we enthusiastically bounced around the club, feeling a little like we were in an old school computer spaceship computer game as Ralph took us on a sonic odyssey. With Mind The Gap and the promise of a tasty b2b still on the cards, Déjà Vu certainly ended the season on a high note and leaving us wanting more… share this tweet this
