With Ibiza’s reputation as a gourmet destination firmly established, every season a host of new culinary hotspots springs up on the White Isle. One we were particularly excited to try is the Lebanese Terrace at stylish boutique hotel Mikasa, located just a stone’s throw from Ibiza Town’s glamorous yacht harbour.

Offering stunning views on the iconic silhouette of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and Ibiza’s neighbouring island Formentera, the al fresco dining space offers an incredibly romantic spot for dinner. Vibrant turquoise tiling, metallic hanging lanterns and hip straw decorations add to the picturesque setting. Having only opened its doors a couple of months ago, it seems that Ibiza has quickly cottoned on to this new hotspot as tables began to fill up quickly around us.

Watching the boats return to the harbour underneath the pastel pink sky, we decided it was the perfect occasion for a cocktail. On the mixology list, guests will find all-time favourites such as several fruity Mojito variations, the popular Hugo and Aperol Spritz, as well as a number of concoctions we have never tried before. We opted for a tropical and potent Mango & Passionfruit Margarita, as well as the intriguingly named Sentiment Acide – an elegantly fruity mix of Belvedere vodka, St Germain, lime and forest fruit syrup.

As the name suggests, the food offering of Mikasa’s Lebanese Terrace is a veritable smorgasboard of Mediterranean plates with Middle Eastern influences perfect for sharing. From fresh seafood to aromatic meat, colourful salads and moreish pastries, even big groups with different taste preferences will be spoilt for choice. Perhaps over-ordering slightly (read: wildly), we started with a selection of creamy hummus and pitta bread, a fatoush salad, fluffy falafel patties, plump king prawns, smoky babaghanoush and spicy ‘harra’ potato cubes to name just a few.

We swooned over the delicious lamb kebbe, little deep-fried cocoons filled with crumbly meat and bulgur, as well as the addictive half-moon shaped ‘hojaldre’ pastries filled with cheese and meat respectively, offering intense flavours with a hint of cinnamon underneath the delicate shell. A crunchy lentil salad and a selection of dips presented in the traditional colourful porcelain bowls turned our meal into a feast for all senses.

So far suitably impressed by the variety and quality of the food, we ordered another round of dishes to really savour the whole length and breadth of the menu. Perfectly grilled chicken wings fell off the bone with a delightful charcoal skin, while the Lebanese pizza, a soft bread filled with molten haloumi cheese, zaatar-spiced tomato sauce and a hint of garlic, can only be described as ‘outrageous’. A light calamari salad, a traditional tabboule salad and tender chicken kebab marinated in lemon juice and herbs offered a healthy balance, while the kebab Mikasa, bursting with a variety of different meats, was the final word in indulgence.

Keen to soak up the magical ambience some more, we convinced ourselves we also needed dessert, opting for two international classics: a chocolate brownie and a tart tatin. The brownie came in ‘doorstopper’ size and was incredibly intense in flavour, yet soft in texture and bursting with walnuts. The upside down apple tart came served with a silky scoop of ice cream and fresh fruit, a heavenly ending to what can only be described as a feast. Full to the brim, we briefly contemplated sneaking into one of the boutique hotel’s stylish rooms and stay the night, but eventually headed home to disappear into a food coma…
