A 24-Hour Party Odyssey At Ushuaïa And Hï Ibiza

It’s been a journey like no other. Travelling through the sounds of Paul Kalkbrenner, Stephan Bodzin, Tale Of US, Damian Lazarus, Richie Hawtin and Chris Liebing, to name a few. The destination was Hï Ibiza – and it all started at across the road at sister venue Ushuaïa Ibiza, 24 hours before. This was a techno odyssey of epic proportions. Here’s how it all unfolded.

Moogmaster Stephan Bodzin treated our ears to some otherworldly synthlines as we began our musical expedition through two of the world’s best clubs. With the hand gestures to match, Godzin’s energy behind the booth transcended through to the thousands in attendance for one of the season’s biggest opening parties. Despite a heavy rain shower an hour or so before, Ushuaïa’s Odyssey revellers were unfazed. After waiting through those long winter months, not much could stand in the way of this mega party marathon.

Tale Of Us were up to close part one of Odyssey. The Italian techno powerhouse duo took this chapter into the Afterlife, transported by all kinds of unreleased goodness. As the clouds cleared and the stars showed themselves, Tale Of Us unearthed their shiniest season gems for us lucky enough to witness the duo’s first Ibiza performance this year. It was worth the wait.

Making the move across the road and over to Hï Ibiza was short but filled with excitement. Tale Of Us had us clubbing crusaders itching for more – but we’d have to wait six more hours before the Afterlife pair were back for a second helping of closing set tastiness. First to greet us at the Playa d’en Bossa superclub was another duo taking dance music by storm. Adriatique have played all over the island and even on every corner of the globe; their set was just as traversed as they took us through the sounds of Diynamic, Afterlife and everything in between.

Damian Lazarus was the next to take the stage in Hï Ibiza’s Theatre room offering. A performer as always, his set was pure theatre in itself. A thumping bass with that melodic spine the Crosstown Rebel’s label head has built over the years created an atmosphere unlike anywhere else. There was even confetti; lots and lots of confetti. It was spectacular and Damian Lazarus – as always – was the perfect spellcaster.

With all that was happening in the Theatre, it was difficult to peel yourself away and venture into Hï Ibiza’s alternative Club room. Thankfully I made the journey whilst Andrea Oliva was churning out his summer heaters in time for this Ibiza clubbing season. The ANTS mainstay went darker than what we’re used to – and this was by no means a bad thing. Some serious beats were plucked, perfected and laid-out to the packed-out Club room. Andrea Oliva means business this summer!

Then it was the turn of Richie Hawtin. Richie Hawtin at Hï Ibiza. Scenes. The Plastikman was on a different kind of level. It was fast, it was heavy and it was oh so perfectly Richie Hawtin. You don’t stay at the top of the game for so long without being an absolute master at your craft. Richie Hawtin is still – somehow – crafting his mastery. Just imagine what he’ll be like in another 20 years?

With aching legs but hearts still beating tirelessly, Tale Of Us were back for a second techno expedition, but this time they had six hours and the whole Theatre at their disposal. The scene was set when Ilija DJokovic’s Nebula ripped through the superclub. It was time to buckle in and enjoy the journey. Moving from melodic techno to Daft Punk’s timeless hit Around The World, the Italian double act well and truly sent our over-stimulated heads into oblivion. Who better to close 24 hours of Ibiza opening party madness? I need to sit down…
