With the cavernous main room bathed in a red neon glow, leather-clad beauties in studs and stilettos cracking their whips and lace-adorned aerialists floating from the ceiling, you would have been forgiven to think you had boarded the wrong plane and stumbled into the tantalising red light districts of Bangkok or Amsterdam. But, as one chunky beat after the next hailed upon the dancefloor and the crowd went wild for every expertly teased build and drop, we were quickly reassured that we were, indeed, still in Ibiza. With their motto for 2019 fittingly titled We Own The Show, for their 11th anniversary celebrations at Privilege the Supermartxé crew transported us to an immersive, larger than life Peep Show sound-tracked by Mark Knight, Kryder, Superlover and Abel The Kid.

Having already wowed us with a whirlwind of colours, artistic performances and quirky characters roaming the club according to the themes of Cyber Geishas and Wild Cathedral, this week’s show was the most provocative to date. And, as always, a juicy line-up of international house music talent awaited! At 2am sharp, Supermartxé’s official birthday celebrations went underway with the grand opening of the show, which saw vocal powerhouse Nalaya belt out Madonna classic Vogue as the incredible stage set burst into action with dozens of fierce dancers. Explosions of red confetti and tongue-in-cheek gimmicks such as plastic penis bottle-toppers and fake boob aprons completed the wacky incarnation of a red light district.

Following party opener Abel The Kid, Toolroom Records boss Mark Knight was headlining the night and the dancefloor was soon throbbing with keen clubbers busting their best moves. Serving up a mix of chart-storming tracks like David Guetta, J Balvin and Bebe Rexha hit Say My Name and his own irresistible hits including Give You Up, The General, Second Story and Into My Life, the beats were big with a satisfying bounce. Enthusiastically dancing along in the booth, Knight kept the energy high until the very last minute when he handed over the reins to ‘King of Groove’ Kryder.

The multi award-winning DJ and producer went straight in with a funky feel-good vibe that even his predecessor couldn’t resist and that kept the Toolroom head honcho dancing in the booth long after he had finished his own set. Combining an infectious pumping bassline with disco elements, Kryder went down a treat with the party-loving crowd in front of him. With leather-clad stilt walkers roaming the room and fierce pole dancers showing off their skills on the main stage, it was impossible not to get caught up in the electric atmosphere of the weird and wonderful universe Supermartxé had created for the night.

Last, but not least, Berlin export Superlover took to the decks to bring his signature emotive, disco and funk-fuelled house melodies to the occasion. He treated the club to chunky basslines that turned the air fuzzy and distorted vocals that led us ever deeper down the rabbit hole of Supermartxé’s Peep Show. It’s fair to say the iconic party brand entered its second decade in a gloriously OTT, extravagant style, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of summer holds…
