ANTS is a Saturday clubbing institution for all Ibiza weekend party-goers. It’s one of the island’s most popular events, with some of the most followed names in house and techno taking over the ANTS megastructure at Ushuaïa Ibiza every week. First started as a seasonal worker’s treat, The Night League owned party concept has grown into one of the world’s most well-known brands, taking over festival arenas and world-class clubs across Europe. This season has seen a whole new production, revamped with no expense spared. The ANTS Metropolis is buzzing – here’s what happened when Essential Ibiza joined the colony.

A Music On favourite, elrow regular and all-round Ibiza techno-house hero, Paco Osuna is an out-and-out headliner. For this ANTS appearance, he was tasked with sunset set duties – and he duly delivered. Starting with some wobbly techno rollers, Osuna soon moved into ANTS territory, opting for more bass-heavy tunes with some feel-good melodies. As night took over the open-air setting, Osuna pushed the speakers to their limit and our shoes into the ground.

Although Ushuaïa Ibiza and ANTS are fairly new parties – starting in 2011 – its cult following spans all corners of the globe and all groups on the island. Its minimalistic soundtrack is perfect for music lovers on Ibiza to come together and start the weekend as they mean to go on. Its production is otherworldly. Whether that’s the powerful icy gas cannons, the mesmerising light show or the towering stage structure that holds it all together; ANTS is a premier party option for all. It was down to the one man who’s been there from the start to close-out this August edition: Andrea Oliva.

The Swiss selector and ANTS headliner has been a part of the party’s exponential evolution from new-born day-time get together to electronic music super-brand. Andrea Oliva has closed out Ushuaïa Ibiza on more than a handful of occasions. He knows exactly what to bring and exactly what Ibiza atmosphere to create. Following Osuna’s rolling set, Oliva started just as bouncy with a proper techno-house punch that the colony know and love. Cristoph’s mega Sweet Disposition remix – along with a classic club sit down – had Playa d’en Bossa roaring. As his set moved closer to its end, the versatile DJ shifted the mood towards a Balaeric feeling. There can only be one tune to finish with: Strings Of Life. With smiles, cheers and whistles capturing the night’s sound, Oliva bowed out in the finest possible way. The Metropolis was entrenched in ecstasy – now it was time to see where the rest of the night would take the colony.
