In 2019, we could all use more peace, love, and good vibrations—and every now and then, a night out in Ibiza that’s a little more relaxed than what you typically experience at the mega clubs. Enter Flower Power at Pacha Ibiza, the island’s longest-running weekly party where the peace, love, and vintage tunes from the White Isle’s hippy heyday have been free flowing for almost four decades.

For its 39th season, Flower Power is returning to its original Wednesday slot with the artistic vision and creative direction overseen by Made in Italy Ibiza once more. Opening on the eve of May 29th with a private reception that took over most of the club and featured live music by The Smoking Stones, a Rolling Stones tribute band from Barcelona, the season got off to a flyer. Led by Mick Jagger doppelganger Sergio Ortiz, the band kicked off with a convincing rendition of Start Me Up as partygoers had the opportunity to roam around the iconic club (including the VIP spaces) without the usual crowds.

After the band’s set, new Flower Power resident DJ Joan Ribas took to the stage closest to the main entrance, welcoming one of the most diverse crowds in Ibiza to Get On Up with James Brown before rolling right into quintessential blues and soul hits of the ‘50s and ‘60s including crowd favourites from the likes of The Jackson 5, The Monkees, and Aretha Franklin. The dress code, by the way, is very much ’70s flower child, and those who have come unprepared can snap up flower crowns and retro sunglasses at the venue!

The relaxed and easy-going fiesta nicely grooved into its own and the energy was palpable by the time Ribas played the party’s quintessential anthem, All You Need Is Love, around 2.30am. Over the years, of course the concept has transformed – especially following Pacha’s glossy refurbishment in 2018 with shiny new ‘60s and ‘70s-themed party decorations to match – but the familiar set list never fails to draw the crowd to the dancefloor. It’s a reminder that, sometimes, The Same Old Song is just as good, if not better, than the next hot DJ!

Speaking of the decorations, as always, Pacha adorned every nook and cranny of the club with Instagram in mind: there were huge peace symbols and disco balls dangling from the ceiling, as well as marijuana leaves and LSD signs spinning in the air, while psychedelic video backdrops brought the walls to life. Models of The Beatles recreated the iconic Abbey Road crossing, while political-themed signs bearing phrases like ‘Sexual Revolution’ felt especially poignant in today’s climate.

As the night turned into the early morning, the easy ‘60s and ‘70s music drifted into disco, ‘80s pop, and, eventually, ‘90s dance hits. It made the magic of this unique island tradition even more accessible for all ages and musical tastes: younger generations and Ibiza newbies, visiting friends who claim they don’t like dance clubs, even your parents! And Flower Power remains, for 39 years and counting, an opportunity for our divided world to Come Together and enjoy the peace and love, Ibiza style – at least, until the party closes for the season on October 2nd
