Never one to rest on his well-deserved laurels from the previous season, every summer Jean Claude Ades surprises us with the eclectic and fresh line-ups curated for his B!CRAZY residency. Comfortably balancing international names that are loosely treading the line between underground and stardom, as well as cutting-edge new talent, the producer and DJ isn’t afraid to shake things up by doing without the headline-grabbing superstars that frequent Ibiza. For the latest edition of his weekly HEART Ibiza Friday soiree, Ades served up a very tasty musical treat in the shape of a live club set by producer duo HVOB.

Making our way into the club through a metallic arch in the shape of a gnarly silver tree, we were swiftly spirited away in an enchanted forest that mesmerised all our senses. The room bathed in a hazy, warm glow and HEART Ibiza’s giant LED-clad walls alive with visuals of leafy tree branches, we felt like we had stepped into an alternate universe. Behind the vine-flanked decks, Ibiza mainstay Jaime Fiorito – son of legendary Balearic trailblazer DJ Alfredo and a favourite on the international circuit – had the crowd in the palm of his hand as he dropped hypnotic, drum-laden beats that were simply impossible to resist from underneath the blood moon floating above the booth.

Just after 2am, HVOB’s Anna Müller und Paul Wallner took to the stage without any fuss or fanfare, launching straight into one of their biggest hits, the dreamy and melodic Lion. Those who were already dedicated HVOB followers greeted this uplifting opener with an enthusiastic ‘roar’ from their side, while virginal ears were instantly converted to fandom status. Over the course of a generous hour, HVOB favourites such as Jack, Dogs and Eraser showed of the depth of the duo’s spectrum, the captivated audience swaying in a trance-like state with most eyes closed. Although totally focused on their performance, HVOB seemed thrilled with the warm welcome they received in Ibiza, with Anna shooting a shy smile into crowd every now and again. Their set delivered goosebump moments galore from start to finish, and closed with the emotive and haunting Panama set to a stunning backdrop of gazillions of stars shining through the branches of a night forest.

We would say HVOB made for a tough act to follow, but with B! CRAZY founder Jean Claude Ades on closing duties we knew the rest of the night was in expert hands. A master of  tantalisingly teased builds, he opened his set with a big drop that saw the dancefloor explode afresh and wake up clubbers from their dreamy reverie. Taking us on an exotic musical journey that effortlessly traversed from deep soundscapes on a tropical tip to sassy South American samba rhythms, there was no point in even trying to sneak off early. In its eighth season on The White Isle – and second summer at HEART Ibiza – we can safely say B!CRAZY has confidently found its own, unique groove and the discerning electronica lover should, under no circumstances, miss it.
