Since opening two years ago, STK Ibiza has become famed for its fine food and fun entertainment. Going veggie is becoming more and more popular – and that’s even more the case on Ibiza. But eating out as a vegetarian or vegan can be difficult. Not everywhere have options that extend further than a summer salad or houmous on fancy toast. STK is known for its premium beefy goodness and meaty delights. It is a steakhouse, after all, but would you expect a vegetarian menu just as tasty? Well, Essential Ibiza headed down to the swanky Marina Botafoch restaurant and bar to find out.

With locations dotted across the world, STK’s steak and entertainment concept is tested, proven and loved by people from all over. On Ibiza, the Instagram hotspot has made a name for itself for its wicked evening entertainment and dine then dance model. After making our way to the table – designed with socialising in mind with its open seating and front-facing view – you could sense a unique party atmosphere with a kind of restaurant party 80’s feel, perfectly complimented by DJ Drew Moreland’s fun, foot-tapping selections. But before any dancing, it was time to eat.

Starting STK’s customary Indonesian bread with a chive and olive sauce captured the social spirit of the restaurant, where the whole experience is shared – well, maybe that’s looking too deep into it, but it was full of buttery deliciousness and wasn’t easy to share after all. Fortunately, our other starters arrived – just after a fun cameo by the Blues Brothers and a welcomed introduction for the night’s entertainment by Ruby Murray – and the food was only getting better. Out came an wonderfully spiced trio of falafel with a punchy, yet creamy vegan salsa, along with a kefir cheese, lettuce, pea and crouton salad. What a start.

Taking a break between our starters and mains, it was a good time to settle down and visually explore STK’s immersive night-time entertainment. It seemed at every moment something was going on, from disco ball dancers to television fitted heads, STK was bouncing with high spirited smiles and table-dancing pleasure. As we sipped on some excellently crafted cocktails, the party mood took over and, maybe after a couple more, I’d probably end up on the table myself.

Now it was time for some meat-free mains. First to catch our eyes and attention was a juicy looking burger. Suspect? It looked like beef, it tasted like beef, but after being reassured by our waiter: it definitely wasn’t beef. Wow. This was up there with one of the most mouth-wateringly succulent burgers I’ve tried. We’ve come a long way from dry and dusty beef supermarket bottom of the freezer substitutes. This was one beefy burger, without the guilt – and the dried and fried plantain shavings, with a light spicy dust, went hand-in-hand.

Next-up was the buffalo mozzarella ravioli. Although not vegan, we can understand why STK wanted us to try these little pockets of creamy pleasure. The pasta had an ideal al dente texture, which held the oozing cheese perfectly. The tangy tomato sauce was a lovely pairing, not just for the pasta, but also for STK’s famous truffle and parmesan chips. It might not be the Venetian way, but if you like ravioli, tomato, parmesan, truffle and potato: why not put them together? This isn’t a time to judge, promise.

With our savoury delights done and dusted, we had to leave room for dessert – and I’m so glad we did. Frozen ice cream cheesecake, cased in a thin yet sturdy white chocolate coating. Heaven. But sadly after all this food, there’d be no dancing on the tables for me tonight. I don’t think I could foot the broken table bill, to be honest. If STK is on your Ibiza restaurant bucket-list, don’t leave your veggie mates behind – and if you’re one of those veggie mates, don’t be put off by STK’s steakhouse label. Its food and entertainment is an experience. It’s far from lettuce leaves and flat conversation.
