There is a new crew from London taking the island by storm this summer. Deep in week seven of its Ibiza season debut, Solid Grooves has brought with it jaw dropping line ups, undeniably skilled residents and something that has stood out from the word go – its unique underground vibe, cherished by their loyal ‘Groover’ following. The brand’s presence is unmissable, with ‘Groover’ stickers plastered across the island, the impressive amount of billboards anchored in key locations, and the highly sought after merchandise such as the ‘Groover’ T-shirts, that seem to be worn by every cool kid on the island. It’s almost impossible to not want to be part of the movement!

Vista club Privilege is one of the most unique venues on the island, literally taking revellers from night to day via the oversized glass windows that circulate the space making for one of the most spectacular sunrises. As we approached the club, a long queue slugged against the white walls – it was clear clubbers were itching to jump straight into the action. Starting off proceedings was Hungarian favourite Reelow, who delivered the perfect opening set, warming up the keen midnight ravers and keeping a consistent groove throughout.

As smoke blasted from the cannons and lasers webbed the dancefloor, Michael Bibi stepped up to take his place behind the decks. The Solid Grooves founder wasted no time in pumping the room with strong, deep basslines as the excitable crowd fist pumped and threw its hands in the air at suspenseful drops. He played several of his own productions such as ‘Standing Near’ and new track ‘Be Mine’, which is soon to be released on Solid Grooves records, which he co founded with fellow resident Pawsa. Musically, the record label has been making huge waves with its consistent chart topping tracks and a sound that is distinctive to the crew. It’s undeniable that the pair has a clear vision for the sound they are looking to achieve, and have taken the brand into new heights as a respectable music label.

It was clear that Solid Grooves was for real music lovers that knew exactly what they were there for. As dancers sporting beautifully long pony tails gracefully approached the two large podiums that sat right in the mix of the crowd, Dungeon Meat joined the booth to prepare for a highly anticipated set. Everyone made sure they did not move from the dancefloor for this performance. The duo used fresh vinyl cuts that engaged the crowd from the get-go and certainly did not disappoint. Italian muse Yaya took over the club with hypnotic grooves, sending revellers to a musical paradise. The infamous Vista sunrise closing set was assigned to Robert Dietz, and what a set it was. He took the room through a high octane journey with underground tracks that had the dedicated crowd in a trance. The packed floor showed full appreciation to Dietz with whistles, shouts and applauses throughout.

The Solid Grooves atmosphere felt incredibly cool and underground throughout, and it’s crystal clear that the new kid on the block has wasted no time in making a mark on the island for 2016, bringing with it a fresh and unique sound that founder Michael Bibi describes as quite simply ‘a Solid Groove’. Thursdays in Ibiza have never been the same…
