June 14 was a very special night of the very special season. It was the opening of Carl Cox’s Music Is Revolution in its last Ibiza summer ever – Carl Cox firmly announced that, no matter what happens with Space next year, he won’t be carrying on with his weekly residency. Fortunately, he had the opportunity to extend his farewell season in the club, launching June 14, Music Is Revolution will run until September 20, gathering together all its loyal crew and setting the bar unprecedentedly high in its spiritual home of Space Ibiza.

Guided by the predictable desire not to miss a beat, we arrived early, at around 1.15am. Actually, the doors were open since 8pm (and will go on doing that every Tuesday), but the busy life of Ibiza journalists didn’t allow us be among the first to clock in. We caught Cristian Varela finishing his set at Discoteca – in his trademark manner, Cristian was fast and furious, not wasting too much time on warming up and making punters plunge head-first into a massive raving experience. The Terrace, on the contrary, was considerably calmer with B.Traits behind the decks – this was the room for those who prefer the night to build up gradually, according to a planned-in-advance storyline. The Sunset Terrace was hosted by Ibiza Global Radio with Jack de Marseille and DJ Callum behind the decks, while the Premier Etage had Clara da Costa presenting her Jacks’ House concept together with Javier Carballo, Hanfry Martinez and El Salon was dancing the night away to the sounds of The Secret After Party team: Quini!, Paul Darey, Carlus Lewandowski, Brlee and M-Sig.

At 1.30am Luciano was ready to take over the reigns in La Discoteca, sporting a beaming smile. Fitting with the typical sound of Carl Cox nights, he invested a lot into energetic tech house, alternating it with less orthodox tracks with intricate loops and vocals. It was close to impossible to tear ourselves from La Discoteca, but we still needed to check the Terrace, where Michel de Hey was set to play at 2.30am. Absolutely accidentally, we arrived back in the room at exactly moment that Carl paid a visit to the DJ booth, grabbed the mic and greeted the dancefloor – and the crowd went crazy. Guess what was going on nearly at the same time at La Discoteca? Pepe Rosello, the owner of Space, came to the DJ booth to hug Luciano! Carl Cox’s Tuesdays have always been about friendship, unity and sharing positive vibes, and the opening of Music Is Revolution 2016 was one of the happiest nights we have witnessed this season so far.

Carl Cox played the closing set in La Discoteca – and it was the first time ever when instead of ‘Oh yes, Oh Yes!’ we wanted to cry out ‘Oh no, oh no!’. This party has been a corner stone of Ibiza nightlife for 15 years, and the thought that it won’t be back next summer is beyond comprehension. Matthias Tanzmann was finishing off the Terrace, but we were in La Discoteca with Carl, dancing with our hands in the air and feeling nostalgic for all the amazing moments we have enjoyed in this room over the years.

From now on, every single Tuesday in June, July and August and all but one Tuesday in September, Music Is Revolution will be on fire in Space. Chris Liebing, UNER, Guti, John Digweed, Monika Kruse, Marco Bailey, Nic Fanciulli, Adam Beyer, Ida Engberg, Andy C, Tonn Piper, LTK Bukem, Dynamite MC and many more are confirmed to perform for the next few weeks – before we hit peak season where capacity nights and crazy antics await as well as incredible line-ups and the endless spirit of Music Is Revolution.
