Tuesday was a momentous night across the island for electronic music. As the DJ Awards took place at HEART Ibiza dishing out the annual honours, Privilege Ibiza was busy playing host to the closing of one of the biggest parties of the season: RESISTANCE. A night of celebration, not only was the line-up enough to make us jump (Carl Cox B2B Maceo Plex and Sasha & John Digweed, anyone?) the team behind the respected clubbing brand undoubtedly closed in the most memorable way having won the category of best ‘Ibiza Night’ just moments before the curtains went up. The hotly anticipated Carl Cox was also at the DJ Awards to receive the best ‘International DJ’ accolade before dashing over to RESISTANCE in time for his four-hour sonic feast.

And, congratulations are indeed in order. RESISTANCE has yet again been the force that unites the island week in, week out, drawing together industry heads and techno lovers in their numbers to play witness to the stellar line-ups that have been, quite simply, phenomenal. Drawing the curtain on a second season of repeated capacity events – only at the world’s biggest nightclub – we are amongst many hoping to welcome the concept back to the White Isle in 2019. Arriving at Privilege Ibiza, a mixture of emotions overwhelmed us, the excited anticipation of a B2B first with Maceo Plex and King Cox, as well as bittersweet sadness that this would be it for the summer!

The industrial walls of the musical powerhouse were oscillating as veteran DJs Sasha & John Digweed dished out infectiously rhythmic techno that had the swarming dancefloor pulsating in the Main Room. The turnout was off the charts as every inch of floor, stair and passageway was taken, and we counted our blessings for press access and breathing space at this one! With Carl Cox’s arrival imminent we popped into the Vista Club to catch some of the dubstep pioneer Skream, who had followed Popof and Josh Wink B2B Butch earlier. Treating the crowd to a tribal flavour and rapid hitting beats, the Croydon DJ was providing some stiff competition for the rooms, each side of Privilege Ibiza proving it very hard for us to leave with the rhythms just too good!

Peeling ourselves away with much difficulty back to the Main Room, we were just in time for the grand moment. The mic came on and the unmistakable sound of Carl Cox, bellowing out to the now incredibly fervent crowd if we were ready! With Maceo Plex taking his spot next to the King, two legends in their own right took over for a partnership we didn’t know we’d been waiting for. Maceo Plex’s symphonic touch worked in perfect tandem with Cox’s more funky old-school style, and the duo dished up a mighty melodic sound that drummed up the dancefloor into die-hard action. The atmosphere was electric as Cox continued on solo into the night delivering, undeniably, the most energetic set we’ve witnessed – perhaps a touch of winner’s glory doing the trick.

Every song the mighty King served out, his disciples lapped up with much vigour, shouting out those famous words ‘Oh Yes! Oh Yes!’ at all the euphoric moments. Privilege Ibiza felt like a blip in time as hard raving and sonic heaven overtook the agenda for the night, keeping us hooked to the unbelievable set by Cox and out for much longer than intended. Classic techno and partying for the love of music, an unforgettable closing that was – RESISTANCE we cannot wait for more!
