While we are still dreaming of languid summer days and sizzling Ibiza nights, yesterday saw the proverbial ribbon being cut on the 2019 season as Atzaro’s annual Fiesta Primavera marked the official beginning of summer time with a vibrant day-to-night celebration. Held in the sprawling gardens surrounding the renowned group’s flagship venue Agroturismo Atzaro, over the years, the festival has not only grown in popularity and, therefore, size, it has also established itself as the first key event in the island’s party calendar.

As an island institution and with properties situated both in the White Isle’s peaceful countryside as well as its spectacular coast, the Atzaro Group prides itself on giving back by supporting those in need locally as well as helping to protect the delicate environment of the Balearic gem it calls home. Therefore, a part of the Fiesta Primavera admission fee was donated to Atzaro Fundraising, a non-profit charitable association that for the 2019 edition of the spring festival collaborated with NGOs including Caritas, Juntos, Ibiza Preservation Foundation and Plataforma Sociosanitaria De La Pitiusas. Furthermore, in a bid to reduce the use of single-use plastic cups, guests could purchase recyclable glasses to be refilled throughout the event at the entrance.

Running from midday to midnight, with a fashion market, dedicated children’s play area, food stalls, art performances and two stages for live and electronic music there was plenty to do and see for revellers of all ages. The weather may have been less than spring-perfect, but despite a forecast of consistent rain visitors came streaming in from all corners of the island – proving that Ibiza’s party spirit simply cannot be dampened! After months of tranquil winter vibes, partygoers got into the spirit of the day by adorning themselves with brightly coloured flower crowns and intricate face paintings.

Those who made their way through the iconic floral gates that mark the entrance to Fiesta Primavera were greeted with a flower before entering the eclectic market offering eye-catching fashions, crystal jewellery and home decorations perfect for taking a piece of Ibiza’s bohemian spirit with you. Parents were invited to drop their little ones off in the beautiful kids area, a part of the gardens decorated with cosy tipis where children were entertained with stories, arts and crafts, music and many other imaginative and creative activities throughout the day. Hunger pangs and thirsty throats were well catered for with pop-ups from Agorturismo Atzaro’s sister venues Aubergine and Atzaro Beach, as well as a host of other stalls serving up local and international delicatessen such as the famous Café Caleta, Hierbas Ibicencas Mojitos, sushi, baked goods and heavenly fragrant treats from the BBQ.

Musically, a varied programme of on-island talent and international artists kept the energy high and our feet dancing from day to night. On the main stage, the sirens from The Pixi Hood showed off their vocal skills before Ibiza favourites Hot Ice Collective got us grooving with their irresistibly smooth and funky sound. Over by the poolside booth, Ibossim Flamenco Live Music added an authentic Spanish flavour to proceedings, before a slew of carefully curated Ibiza favourites including Rubens and Jacobo Saavedra took to the turntables.

British classical-popular crossover singer Laura Kathryn Wright, who had been flown in especially for Atzaro’s Fiesta Primavera, wowed the crowd with an emotive and popular set that saw the award-winning soprano tackle three huge hits that spanned the opera, pop and electronic music genres effortlessly. Her cover of Pavarotti’s iconic Nessun Dorma had us breaking out in goosebumps, a huge success she swiftly followed with a heart-wrenching rendition of Shallow by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper from the Oscar-winning movie A Star Is Born. For a very special surprise, Ibiza regular and global superstar DJ Roger Sanchez had given Laura, who has been cited as ‘the Queen’s favourite opera singer’ after performing for Her Majesty more times than any of her peers, permission to cover his anthem Another Chance; another sure-fire success we would love to hear again on the island this summer. Leaving her captivated audience wanting more, Laura returned for an encore to remember as she belted out Adele’s James Bond theme tune Skyfall.

It wouldn’t be an Atzaro event without a heavy dose of style and creativity, and so throughout the afternoon a parade of island beauties showcased the latest and greatest in Balearic fashion, tempting us to whip out the credit card and invest in a whole new boho wardrobe. Talented painter Behzad showed off his skills during a live art performance that saw him ‘blend’ a real life model into one of his sceneries by cleverly matching her body paint to the canvas behind.

As the sun began to set, more and more revellers arrived to join the party. Both the poolside and main stages were framed by pulsating throngs of music lovers as the likes of Wally Lopez, Miguel Garji, Manu Gonzalez and many more fired them up with increasingly driving beats.

By the time Anna Tur took to the booth, a sea of faces greeted the popular DJane. A Fiesta Primavera veteran, she whipped the crowd into a frenzy with her signature fierce tech house sound. Fellow Ibiza favourite Iban Mendoza was on closing duties, demanding every last ounce of energy from the partygoers as he unleashed chunky basslines, distorted vocals and sharp sonic effects on us. And so, in true Atzaro style, a vibrant and harmonious day that combined all the best that Ibiza has to offer culminated in a euphoric celebration of life, love and – of course – music as Fiesta Primavera declared the 2019 season as officially ‘open’.
