Solomun returned to Sunday night in Pacha as his plus one concept kicked off the 2017 season by welcoming Mano Le Tough to the repositioned Pacha booth. The Maeve records co-founder is the first in a series of exciting head to heads that will see Solomun challenged musically week on week in front of his strong loyal island following. What better way to start the latest Plus One season than in the company of one of the world’s finest music selectors, we couldn’t wait to the famous old club.

It’s amazing to think that, while we are excited about our first Pacha encounter of the summer, the iconic Ibiza venue is welcoming clubbers from all over the world for the fiftieth year! Half a century of parties that have shaped the journey of the dance music scene, and been significant in this small Balearic island becoming a powerhouse of the international dance music scene. As we reached the venue, it was clear we weren’t the only ones excited about the possibilities that lie ahead in the new season as a large crowd waited patiently outside.

Once inside it didn’t take too long to find out groove and a spot on the dancefloor, quite an achievement considering it was packed already. This party started off strong on the front foot when it launched but it has grown year on year and is one of the most anticipated of the opening week. Mano La Tough looks completely at home in the booth, which in time honoured Plus One tradition has moved to make it part of the floor, giving the clubbers a chance to look the DJs in the eye. That said, you’d need a step ladder to go eye to eye with either of tonight’s towering protagonists but you know what I mean. The vibe on the floor is building nicely as the talented Irishman takes us on a journey to the depths and back.

Pacha is arguably the world’s most glamorous discoteque but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t got the ability to go dark every now and again. Dancers are all in black, the lighting effect as on a more subtle tip, with dark reds and blues washing across the floor as anticipation level continue to grow. Solomun enters the booth, causing a spike in emotion from the floor, very high fives are exchanged between artists, before the headliner takes control of his booth for the first time this summer. Solomun has an ability to exercise his musical muscles depending which guest he finds himself alongside, he is equally at home on a deep house tip or a driving techno journey, one of the reasons he resonates with so many Ibiza clubbers. That shared love of a variety of clubbing genres makes for an interesting shared experience when he is in charge of the booth. Tonight was no different and as the crowd erupted yet again at the end of a breakdown, it was time to lose ourselves in the music. Solomun Plus One is open, get the Sunday party in your diary!
