Now that the evenings are getting warmer, what better way is there to spend a balmy summer night than enjoying a delicious dinner on the beach? With ‘verano’ knocking on our door, elegant Santa Eulalia seaside restaurant and bar Chiringuito Blue has extended its opening hours to serve up its divine Mediterranean cuisine all the way through from 12.00 noon until 24.00 at night.

Located just below Santa Eulalia’s bustling beach promenade, Chiringuito Blue boasts a prime position right on the golden sands of the gently curved bay. The plush grey sofas, decorated with colourful cushions and soft blankets to keep warm in the evening breeze, offer the perfect spot to watch the pastel-hued afterglow of sunset. When we arrived, both the sheltered dining room and the plant-covered terrace where nicely busy with both guests who had enjoyed an extended lunch and those who had just arrived for dinner, like us.

Our meal began with Chiringuito Blue’s inimitable pitta bread and tahini dip, one of the most addictive pre-dinner nibbles we have ever tasted. The perfectly fluffy bread and the silky tahini really test your willpower not to spoil your appetite before the mains arrive!  Chiringuito Blue’s menu focuses on Eastern Mediterranean flavours combined with fresh Ibicencan seafood and vegetables, offering everything from light plates and salads perfect for summer to more indulgent treats for when your appetite demands them.

We continued with a selection of starters to share between us; a bowl of warm chickpeas drenched in tahini and topped with a fresh tomato salsa and premium olive oil, a fruity and light charcoal grilled aubergine, and a silky potato and garlic puree that was deliciously contrasted with crunchy almond crumbles.

After a short breather during which we sipped heavenly cold wines and listening to the soulful music drifting into our ears, the next round of dishes arrived at our table. The raw yellowtail sashimi accompanied by tomato seeds and coriander was delicate and melted in the mouth in an explosion of flavours. This light summer favourite was juxtaposed by the hearty Araies; charcoaled pitta bread halves filled with aromatic minced lamb and fresh herbs.

Of course, our dinner wouldn’t be complete without trying some of the divine seafood and fish the Chiringuito Blue kitchen whizzes pride themselves on. Four plump and juicy charcoal grilled shrimps in their bright red shells arrived on a simple bed of rocket and with a sprinkling of salt, allowing the subtly balanced flavours of the sea to do the talking. They were accompanied by two gorgeous grilled sea basses carried out on a hot stone platter and with a perfectly bronzed skin.

However, there is always room for dessert, and swiftly two glasses filled with a deconstructed cheesecake and a divine Mousse de Halva arrived. The cheesecake was a feast of flavours and textures with a crunchy, crumbled-up base and fresh raspberries cosying up to the luscious creamy filling. Meanwhile, the coffee-flavoured Mousse de Halva can only be described as a cloud-like softness with tantalising caramelised nuts surprising us every other bite.

After such a glorious dinner, what better way to end the night than with a selection of post-dinner cocktails? With the sound of the waves crashing filling our ears, the tropical Cachaça and Jack Daniel’s Honey-fuelled A Moça transported us straight to Hawaii with its pineapple and coconut flavours – a lighter version of the traditional Piña Coladaperfect for sweltering summer nights. Meanwihle, the potent Voodoo People concoction saved us from a post-meal coma thanks to its zesty citrus hints carefully balanced with the sweetness of vanilla. Offering a welcoming and relaxed space for an atmospheric dinner, you should enjoy the seaside elegance and fresh flavours of Chiringuito Blue at least once this summer!
