After news broke that Marco Carola’s Music On would be setting up stall at the famous Pacha Ibiza this summer, all eyes became firmly fixed on this premier island residency. But with over seven years of Music On Ibiza history – which has seen it grow into a behemoth of a brand with the loyalist of following – you can always expect the Italian techno brand to deliver. This night was no exception.

You could feel amplified anticipation bursting through the queue and into the entrance of the iconic Ibiza club filled with people who have been making the summer pilgrimage to see Marco Carola’s label night for years. It’s truly a global brand with roots firmly fixed on this island. With all the success it has had over seven seasons, it’s fair to say questions were on the mind of many Music On revellers. Detroit techno pioneer Stacey Pullen was tonight’s Music On guest. Motion Sky’s The Floor Is Lava ripped through the Pacha dancefloor and set the tone perfectly for the coming set. It was that funky yet thunderous Music On sound we’ve come become accustomed to over the years and Stacey Pullen was hitting all the right spots, at all the right times. The beats-per-minute chart went through the roof when he dropped Samba De Janeiro by Bellini. Pacha was pumping. Music On was here.

At 3am it was time for Marco Carola. The stage had been expertly set by Stacey Pullen after a perfect Music On performance – but now it was time for the Don. Mat.Joe’s So High has been hitting the Instagram video airways over the past few months and when Carola dropped this one the dancefloor shattered and the night kicked into seventh gear. Listen out for that one this summer!

Tune after tune, kick drum after kick drum, we were soon seat-belted in for a stellar Marco Carola set. David Morales and The Bad Yard Club’s In De Ghetto (The Bad Yard Club Mix) swept the piano in and the whole of Pacha was teleported back to the 1990s. Carola rolled back the years and kept them rolling until the early hours. You Used To Hold Me by Ralphi Rosario airlifted the venue right into the centre of Chicago. That transatlantic sound – which has become synonymous with Music On – was represented in full force, full speed ahead. Marco Carola ‘s debut at the home of the twin cherries was absolutely spot on. Welcome to Pacha!
