Las Dos Lunas is known by foodies as one of Ibiza’s icons of Italian fine dining. The creation of Massimo Lucarini and his wife Almudena, this former antiques store was transformed and reopened as a restaurant in 1981. After 38 years, it continues to be one of the most sought-after table reservations on the island.

Frequented over the years by many rich and famous DJs, film directors and artists – not to mention the King of Spain himself – the warm welcome as you enter through the doors is universal to all. This stone walled hideaway haven remains the home of Massimo, who continues to keep a close eye over proceedings whilst his family proudly play an important role in Las Dos Lunas’ continued success. The essence of the family spirit is felt in the friendly atmosphere and attentive front of house service led by his son, Lupo Lucarini.

Within walking distance from super clubs Amnesia and Privilege, the comprehensive cocktail list and a skilled mixologist make this an obvious choice to start your evening in style. Sit beneath the giant palms or the romantic balcony under cascading bougainvillea. The seated outdoor terrace oozes sophistication and romance of a fairytale oasis. Cosy candle-lit tables are hidden in secretive alcoves and decadent banquet tables complete the perfect setting for celebrations amongst family and friends as well as the ultimate wedding reception. The rustic tables adorned with fresh flowers add a traditional touch in contrast to the quirky art and vibrant colours of the mosaic harlequin tiles that add a playful twist to the colourful décor.

Chef Luciano dedicates the menu to truly traditional dishes that celebrate the finest ingredients harvested from their own organic vegetable garden in addition to locally sourced produce. The unique menu, steeped in Italian heritage, comprises choice cuts of fish and meats, home cooked pastas, risottos and a desert menu to die for.

Invited to sample some of the highlights from this seasons menu, we took our seats on a warm summer’s evening amidst the mouth-watering aromas of the home baked bread and focaccia from the wood fired oven. Always excited to sample a classic dish for the first time, we were treated to a delicious ‘Vitello Tonnato’, a plate of thinly sliced veal with a delicate tuna and caper sauce. Our firm favourite, tuna tartare with wafer thin crunchy toasts, was also complimented by a dish of light and crispy gambas served with creamy seafood dressing, one of a number of daily specials that are offered each day.

Main courses included another celebrated classic, Cochinillo, a fine cut of roasted suckling pig served with an apple puree and fresh seasonal vegetables. The risotto of the day was a delicious combination of rich mushroom-laden rice dressed with truffle oil and, for those wanting for a lighter option, we highly recommend the finely sliced beef carpaccio with rocket and matured parmesan shavings. Last but by no means least was the Veal Cotoletta Milanese, perhaps the most famous traditional Italian dish. We are reliably informed that Las Dos Lunas is the only restaurant offering a truly authentically prepared ‘Milanese’ on the island – simply delicious!

No Italian meal would be complete without an indulgent desert. Struggling to choose from the enticing selection of postres we amazed ourselves by devouring a sharing plate of creamy tiramisu, delicate pannacota, tantalizing tarte tartin and an assortment of fruits topped with refreshing strawberry sorbet. Our empty plates were a true compliment to the chef.

With our apparently insatiable appetites replete, we happily sat soaking up the evening ambience to the whispers of our fellow diners who filled the restaurant. Enlightened by the mastery of Italian fine cuisine it was time to leave, but not before a visit to the chic pop-up boutique, ‘Wardrobe of Dreams’ run by daughter Giada Lucarini. Showcasing a stunning collection of modern bohemian jackets, dresses and accessories we challenge you to leave without making a purchase. Las Dos Lunas is open every night for dinner from 8pm until 1.30am, and we recommend to make a reservation in advance to secure a table!
