As UK house producer Henry Hacking continues to build momentum across the global dance music charts with hit singles like ‘Get Down’,  ‘Nasty Girl’ and new release ‘Roller’, the jet-setting DJ is returning to the White Isle this summer as a resident for Pukka Up’s WNDRLND party at Eden, as well as House in Paradise at O Beach Ibiza. We caught up with the turntable maestro to chat about his new music and the summer ahead…

Pukka Up is one of the island’s most famous boat parties. What makes the experience so special?
Pukka Up’s hard work and dedication to make every boat party the best it can be is reflected by the clubbers. I’ve not once stepped foot on board without being greeted with incredibly positive, feel good energy. The perfect combination.

What can we expect from your sets at Pukka Up, WNDRLND and House in Paradise this summer?
I really can’t wait for these parties!  Each set will be all about house music, although as all the set times are at different times of the day, they’ll vary in tempo. Expect everything from jackin’, groove, tech and vocal house.

Who would be your dream b2b partner?
Musically, I don’t think anyone will be more ‘on point’ than my old partner in crime Tony from my BeatThiefs days.  We would always play one track each (so properly b2b), allowing the other to drop acapellas, tricks and effects. Our partnership was seamless and so natural.

Ibiza is the world’s clubbing capital, which Ibiza memory most sums up the island for you?
Funnily enough, on a Pukka Up boat, during those BeatThiefs days!  We made a (now very popular) mash-up called ‘Final Road’, using Dubfire’s ‘Roadkill’ and Kings of Tomorrow ‘Finally’.  Dropping that to a packed boat as the sun was setting was an unforgettable, indescribable moment. The whole boat erupted!

You have always been prolific in the studio but recently you have upped the game considerably. What’s the reason behind that?
In this day and age, releasing music really is the key to building your credentials.  Long gone are the days of being booked solely as a DJ. So after going solo in 2017 and building some momentum throughout 2018, I felt it was the right time to increase releases and look to take my career to the next level.

You have had some house heavyweights remix your tracks – David Penn/ ATFC to name only a couple – but which other producers would you love to give a track to remix to and why?
I mean, if someone had told me back in 2018 that two of my favourite producers would be remixing my music in 2019, I’d have passed out!  I’m already incredibly grateful to the team behind me for working so hard to secure such iconic names.  There are other amazing producers though I’d love to remix my work – Claptone, Oliver Heldens, Jax Jones, Gorgon City, Duke Dumont, Purple Disco Machine… the list is pretty long!

And if you could remix anyone, which artist would it be and why?
Eric Prydz – musical genius. Nuff said!

You have an extensive tour schedule that takes you across the world; apart from playing to different crowds, what is the one thing you look forward to most when hitting the road?
I have two beautiful daughters – the eldest nearly 3 years old and the youngest just 14 months. I binge-sleep on all the flights, it’s paradise lol.

Favourite destination to play and why?
My home from home is Asia, but not a specific location. From Thailand to Indonesia to Malaysia – everywhere is full of the most spectacular nightclubs and incredibly friendly and insane clubbers.  My sets vary from location to location, playing everything from big room to sunset beach parties, but they are all so memorable.

When you’re not playing or going to clubs, what’s your ideal Ibiza day/night?
Two of the most perfect locations for me would be Juan y Andrea and Blue Marlin Ibiza.  Perhaps a long lazy lunch at Juan y Andrea in Formentera, followed by a speedboat back to Ibiza for a sunset session at Blue Marlin Ibiza.  If I’m not playing, I prefer to kick back and relax with good food, drinks and friends.

The Ibiza sunset is an unmissable experience, which tune is your perfect sunset-at-sea anthem and why?
There are so many to choose from, but an instant frontrunner would be the timeless Laurent Garnier classic ‘ The man with the Red Face’.  An iconic track that really epitomizes the true soul of Ibiza to me.

Catch Henry at Pukka Up and WNDRLND at Eden on Saturday 15th June and at House Of Paradise at O Beach on Sunday 16th June. His next release ‘Higher’ will be out exclusively on Beatport on June 21st, and worldwide on June 28th.
