Carl Cox Afters In Benimussa

If you know you know! That was the phrase that dominated the end of last summer as rumours flew around the Internet of a massive after party to celebrate the end of the car Cox Music Is Revolution era at Space Ibiza. Fast forward almost a year and we were at it again, as Carl Cox brought the curtain down on the second of two sold-out Privilege shows for Pure Carl Cox and clubbers scrambled for the information on where to go next. It was back to Benimussa, the abandoned Zoo on the outskirts of San Antonio for was a fitting finale!

When you look at the line up for the after party in Benimussa it’s hard to imagine that it was all organised at the last minute as we would be led to believe, which makes it even more impressive. To keep a lid on such a gathering of talent until the very last minute and still pack one of the largest club spaces on the island is testament to just how popular Carl Cox is in Ibiza. The main stage featured Carl Cox, The Martinez Brothers, Kerri Chandler and Tuccilo, while the seal pit saw Adam Beyer, Hybrasil, Fabio Neural b2b Elio Riso and Philip Straub holding court and there were numerous other talented spinners in the Living Room and Upside Down, including island favourites Ken Fan, Andy Baxter and Clara Da Costa, to name only a few.

The fun kicked off at 17.00, and while there was definitely a fresh wave of clubbers that had either missed the party the night before or who had shown great discipline and gone home first, there were battle hardened party professionals that had gone old school and gone right through! Benimussa offers a unique space for a gathering of this magnitude, delivering an authentic festival vibe, the perfect foil for the madness that unfolded the night before in Privilege. Kerri Chandler was in charge pf the main stage when we landed, dropping chunky, deep beats that had the crowd moving from the off. That’s the one thing that should be mentioned, this was a huge outdoor gathering but there was very little standing still staring at the booth, everyone was dancing and getting involved.

The Martinez Brothers attacked their set with the energy and passion they have become famous for, taking us up a notch as they were joined in the booth by the man of the moment for an impromptu back to back, much to the delight of everyone. The final set of the night was reserved for the headliner and he wasted no time in picking up where he had left the Privilege floor the night before, rocking and hanging on every tune change. Last year, this gathering was tinged with a fear that it might be the last time it would witness Carl Cox in Ibiza playing, if the rumours flying round the island were true. This year, it was pure joy, not only had he returned, he had filled Privilege, the world’s largest club – twice – and here we were again packed into Benimussa because we just didn’t want it to end. The good news is that Carl Cox has just been announced as the special guest for Loco Dice’s birthday bash at Hyte Amnesia on August 9, so the party continues…
