Stars Align At Destino Opening

What better way to start the weekend off than heading to Destino, Pacha Ibiza resort, Cap Martinet for its annual opening fiesta. Partying under the stars in the sumptuous surroundings of the luxurious resort has become a regular thing for discerning clubbers on the island and with Luciano, Guy Gerber and DJ Shimza in charge of the musical journey, it promised to be another party to remember.

After another sun soaked day on the Balearic paradise, all roads led to Cap Martinet and the stunning view from the poolside of Destino, Pacha Ibiza resort. We arrive before sunset to find a growing line at the entrance and a poolside filling up quickly. The sun had started its journey below the horizon as we walked into the main arena and DJ Shimza is nearing the end of his set. The South African artist was outstanding at the closing fiesta last summer and his deep beats and rhythms had the floor packed and the mood high.

Destino is the perfect spot for an outdoor party, the elegant poolside space offers a variety of places to enjoy. From the tables at the side of the elevated stage and booth to the dancefloor immediately in front of it, where the party really goes off. For those that prefer a more chilled party experience, the other side of the pool to the stage offers a view across the bay to Dalt Vila and for those that like to enjoy a late night bite, the restaurant still offers a view of the stage and all that is unfolding.

Guy Gerber is the next artist to enter the booth and no stranger to overseeing a packed dancefloor on the outdoor arena, his own Rumors party offers a regular excuse to drop in. He builds on the strong foundation work of DJ Shimza, taking the pace up a notch with a melodic journey that has the hairs on the arm standing on end regularly. He is completely at ease controlling the huge crowd, taking it up and down at will, building towards the final performance of the night, from Luciano. Day has turned to night and the venue is approaching capacity as the popular Swiss/ Chilean spinner gets to the booth.

Luciano has been a regular fixture at Destino’s bigger events in recent years, from its opening and closing fiestas and birthday celebrations. He is an island favourite that has an eye for the dramatic and an ear for a wicked tune. For the first few minutes of his set, the crowd is almost at a standstill, phones in the air recording the start of the set, that is until it hits the first breakdown, the volume dips, the effects kick in as he masterfully builds suspense before bringing the track back in at the height of the crescendo causing the crowd to burst into motion, hands in the air and generating the first big roar of the night, there’s nothing better than an outdoor party in Ibiza at the hands of DJs that are acutely aware of how to get the very best from this size of crowd. Destino Pacha Resort is officially open and there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the space this summer but, for now, the phones are stashed on pockets and the party has begun.
