Now in its fourth season, Solomun +1 continues as one of the island’s favourite parties. Featuring Guy Gerber as this week’s guest, Pacha was beaming with energy from beginning to end with astounding sets by two of Ibiza’s and indeed the world’s most beloved DJs.

After a solid deep-tech-house opening by Chelina Manuhutu, Guy Gerber took over an already full house. Surrounded by dancers with dangerously low-cut black leotard body suits and dizzying stilettos, Solomun’s +1 of the night had the dimmed dancefloor pulsing with darkish tech-house. With the entire club open, including the side rooms by the entrance as well as the funky room, a very engaged crowd was going at it in every corner. As the main room lit up in single-coloured reds, blues and greens, the energy was palpable immediately upon entering.

Guy’s intense set was rich in intriguing sounds and varying speeds. Altering the pace, the Israeli sensation brought unhurried build-ups and gratifying unravelings. With various samplings from house riffs to atmospheric synths, it ebbed and flowed into the night. Mind-blowing to the core, its carefully structured progressions and stark transitions delivered a tale of sonic wonder. Running a dreamy trance thread towards the conclusion of his set, Guy built his tunes to top levels, Solomun standing next to him in the booth for the final part. Ending fiercely with progressive house at its finest, Guy Gerber had everyone up in frenzy. As the LED octahedron surrounded by mirrored inverted pyramids reflected the crowd from above, the night turned to King Solomun himself.

Welcomed warmly, Solomun took over without skipping a beat. With surprising twists, radical turns and flawless delivery, he brought on another astonishing set. The dancers, now in red, with their extra long high ponytails and ultraviolet reflective eyelids, appeared eerily seductive, as the room went dark in intensely deep colours. Immediately satisfying the hungry animated revelers, Solomun delivered from the start, with a hands in the air moment followed by an explosion of confetti showering down on the dance floor. Diving deep underground Solomun took the entire Pacha with him, the excited crowd needing no second invitation to go along for the ride. With a trace of robotic vocals, psychedelic rises, galloping basslines and dramatic pauses followed by throbbing beats, the massive buildups and releases were irresistible, as the giant screen projected the infamous images of two cartoon tongues engaged in semi-amorous displays. Dropping a “Pump Up the Jam” sample and spear sounds hailing back to the last millennium, Solomun’s set was colossal throughout, culminating in a brilliant b2b with Guy till the end of the night.

Despite his full global schedule, Solomun’s excitement remains. One can tell merely by looking at him that he loves arousing the crowd’s reaction as it anticipates his drops. Engaging with the music, the crowd and the art of electronic music, Solomun remains one of the finest DJs around and certainly one of the most beloved, his +1s always on fire. It’s easy to see why Sunday in cherry world remains one of the island’s favourite nights and unmissable parties.
