World famous for not just its super clubs, Ibiza champions the crown for being the electronic music destination of the globe, and continues to reign year after year. One of the many beauties of the White Isle, other than the paradise beaches that rests on its shores, is the recent births of alternative nights that cater for music categories unconventional to the island, for the Ibizan’s who wish to take a break from the hard hitting techno beats.

One brand that has achieved this beautifully is Boogie In Wonderland, centred on the freshest disco sounds delivered by exquisite musical talents. In its first Ibiza season, we couldn’t contain our excitement for time travelling to a 70’s influenced Studio 54 meets Andy Warhol loft party soirée. HEART Ibiza is home to Boogie in Wonderland in Ibiza, and oh my how it fits like a glove. Nestled in the beautiful Marina Botafoch area, HEART Ibiza boasts one of the most stunning spaces on the island, perfect for disco glamour.

Reinforcing this, was the enclosed mirrored room we were directed to walk through upon entering the nightclub, setting the theme from the get go with the stunning twinkling disco balls that hung from the ceiling. Were we actually in the 70’s or was if 2016? The disco era already felt real. As soon as we opened the doors into the main club area, a ‘Boogie in Wonderland’ sign could be seen in red neon lighting, sitting above a small booth. We had arrived. It was still early in the night and there already stood an impressive capacity, all dressed for the occasion too. Ladies could be seen wearing sequined dresses, tops and skirts and platformed heels and shoes, making an impressive effort to whip out their funkiest disco clobber. The men too looked fabulous, sporting smart shoes, gelled hair do’s and quirky shirts and blazers. Making our way in to the main room whilst rubbing shoulders with the fabulously dressed attendees, large glistening lights directed our eyes to a ginormous disco ball that rotated above our heads. It was mesmerising and we couldn’t stop looking at it. Gold sequined dressed dancers moved their bodies to the funky beats in two square holes in the wall, which slowly slid close to return it to a full wall again. The visuals were magnificent, and dominated the entire room on larger than life screens that circulated the dancefloor. First impressions so far… Wow!

Singing Sensation Recardo Patrick took to the stage with a live band, consisting of guitars, saxophone, drums and a piano. We didn’t know what to expect initially, however any doubts were squashed in the first few seconds. The entertainment got the whole crowd singing, clapping and energetically moving to big time classics such as ‘Billie Jean’ and ‘I’m Every Woman’. The symphony of sounds combined with the view of the happiest faces on the dancefloor, raised the hairs on our arms. It was a warming sight. Afterwards, the music responsibilities returned to the DJ booth and at 2.30am another surprise awaited us. Stunning women strutted down the spiral stairs and on to the stage, creating an unforeseen catwalk show. A performance to Madonna’s ‘Into The Groove’ took over the stage shortly after, with revelers singing every word and dancing their hearts out! The energy was vibrant, and you could tell all were thinking something along the lines of…’finally an establishment that caters for the music we all know and love’. Two ladies performed various acrobatics on white linen ropes and hoop swings, weaving and twisting their bodies like I’ve never seen, and making it all look so effortlessly natural as we all watched in awe.

It was 3am and David Phillips was deep in to his disco set with the crowd boogying away in front of him. Various performing characters jumped on to the main stage in their funky 70’s dress up, interacting with the party goers and making us all chuckle with their silent quirky jokes. The disco beats were getting deep and dirty, the perfect time for UK DJ Miguel Campbell to jump on and take the room in to the last leg of the night. Taking control of the decks at 4am, Miguel Campbell dropped funky soulful beats with a disco edge, hitting the nail on the disco head. Everybody in the room was grooving and shaking, and no one was thinking of leaving just yet. Boogie In Wonderland has delivered the disco paradise it sought out to achieve, combining music, fashion, art, performances and a live band, all of which kept us engaged throughout, making for an unmissable experience for the disco loving islanders. No expense was spared on costume and aesthetics – a spectacular show that took us back to one of the most iconic eras of all time.
