Toolroom Knights Opens With A Booom!

I think it’s fair to say celebrated dance music label Toolroom Records has left it quite late to throw its hat in the Ibiza ring for 2014 but when you look at the line up for its opening party and subsequent parties to follow, it really doesn’t matter when it decided to drop into the island, it’s bringing with it a host of exciting talent and the promise of some amazing parties, making it a welcome addition for the season. Heading up the Toolroom Knights party is label owner Mark Knight, one bonafide member of the international DJ jet set; this is a DJ that clocks more air miles than the busiest BA pilot as he tries to keep up with the demand for his services. Booom! Ibiza is the home of the residency, every Monday night from July 21 and we drop into the club early to catch the killer line as Leftwing & Kody, Dale Howard, Claptone and Hector Couto join Mark Knight in celebrating the opening.

Dale Howard and Leftwing and Kody are playing back to back as we make our entrance, down the stairs into the room and straight on to the dancefloor. This is a venue that was built with just one such night in mind, great dance music delivered by talented, innovative professionals that have a knack for creating an electric atmosphere. We had no other thoughts when we reached the bottom of the stairs but to make it to that dancefloor and add our voices to the chorus already showing appreciation for the magic coming from the booth. House music is the order of the day and through the custom built Pioneer soundsystem, it sounds amazing, loud enough to dance to but not too imposing that I can’t hear my friend dancing next to me. If a well-known Danish beer made nightclubs is the first thought that springs to mind.

As Dale Howard and Leftwing and Kody finish their set, Claptone appears in his golden mask and white gloves, all eyes on him! This really intrigued everyone on the dancefloor and before he even starts playing expectation levels are soaring. To say the masked mixer exceeded the aforementioned expectations is an understatement; energy levels jump a notch or two as he delivers a house journey loaded with phat basslines, hypnotic chords and a few great vocals. The groovy set came to an end all too quickly for us, we could have listened to Claptone all night, that said, the line up is packed with strength in depth so we are confident that whatever happens next will only add to our enjoyment of an already great party.

Booom! Ibiza is a wicked venue, if I’m being honest, it’s not one I have spent a great deal of time in but as the night unfolds, I get a better appreciation of the place and it all makes perfect sense. The elevated VIP areas are starting to fill up now, beautiful women look on as the sexy Booom! dancers add another glamorous element to the occasion. With seating inside and outside the club, there are plenty of options when you need to take a breather. We popped outside into the garden, with cushions and mats strewn out on the floor and golden, short tables, It’s the perfect place for a catch up in between sets. The subtle lighting and outdoor bar mean you can relax and still enjoy your favourite tipple in the cooling night air.

Back inside and it was time for what the majority of the opening party crowd had come here for, Mark Knight. With the party named after him, we had a feeling this might be something special. We have heard tales of the label head honcho’s musical journeys from friends but never actually witnessed one for ourselves so we are looking forward to his appearance. He proceeds to take the opening party up another notch, with a musical adventure laced with naughty grooves, filthy basslines and downright disruptive beats, this is exactly what we needed at this point. He cuts an energetic shape behind the decks does Mr. Knight, and why not, if he’s feeling half the energy that we are on the dancefloor he would have to keep moving. Hector Couto follows Mark Knight, showing just why he is one of the hottest talents on the current electronic scene. Several guest spots at many of the big Ibiza parties under his belt for this season is further testimony to his rising star and on the strength of his set at Toolroom Knights opening, he is set to go the distance. Toolroom Knights might be last to the party but they are by no means playing catch up. The opening party served as a statement of intent for a season that promises to deliver countless magical musical moments between now and the closing party, get Monday night in Booom! Ibiza in your diary, you will not be disappointed.
