Ibiza 2017 is shaping up to be one of the biggest in recent memory, there are exciting collaborations everywhere you look, there are some serious and difficult choices to be made by clubbers this summer. There was nothing difficult about the decision to attend the Privilege opening party on Thursday May 25, featuring some of the finest DJs on the planet, including Booka Shade, Chus & Ceballos, Kenny Dope and Roger Sanchez, to name just a few.

There are few main rooms that boast the grandeur of Privilege; the biggest in the world, it has witnessed some of the biggest parties in dance music and this summer promises to add a few more to that history. Kehakuma, Suara, Four Thirty Two, Afterlife, Resistance and Pure Carl Cox are just some of the parties that will be lighting up Ibiza 2017 in Privilege but before then, there is the star studded opening to enjoy.

There are highlights everywhere you look; Kenny Dope shows why he is a true Master At Work, delivering his trademark chunky beats as he shows the skill at moving the dancefloor that has seen him rule the house scene for two decades. Another of the original house heavyweights, Roger Sanchez, showed he has lost none of his deck wizardry as he used multiple channels to deliver a masterclass of mixing that was not lost on the packed Privilege. Los Suruba added a feisty Latin flavour to proceedings and Kenny Glasgow displayed the uncompromising dedication to the underground vibe that saw Art Department rule in recent years.

The club throbbed to a chunky underground beat for the first time this summer but definitely not the last. With a host of fantastic parties already committed, Privilege is back to its rightful spot as one of the island’s premier clubbing destinations. As big Booka Shade fans, the addition of the dynamic duo to the opening party line up was one that filled us with happiness and we were not disappointed. Walter and Arno breezed through a set packed with electronic genius, much of which came from their own studio.

The atmosphere was electric, the huge screen behind the booth mesmerising and hypnotising when they weren’t keeping all of us at the back up to date with who was playing. Not that there was any doubt with Booka Shade, the silhouette of Arno, hat on and drum sticks in hand as Walter donned the headphones was distinctive, even from the back! New single ‘Numb The pain’ with Craig Walker showed they have lost none of their innovation as they get set to embark on a series of festival and club dates this summer. The duo was a personal highlight in a night filled with them. Privilege set the bar high for the coming season, something tells me it will have no problem living up to expectations.
