There are very few excuses during the busy high season that allow us to leave our beloved White Isle, but every now and again an invite comes along that is just too good to turn down! And so last week, the Essential Ibiza team took a short 35 minute flight – island hopping, really – across the Mediterranean to watch Example perform at live music hotel BH Mallorca in Magaluf.

Sitting in the heart of the famous party destination and just a short walk away from the main strip with its many bars and clubs, the accommodation is the perfect home away from home if you’re young, trendy, and up for some epic fun! Offering everything the party-loving travellers heart could desire, BH Mallorca impresses from the second you set foot into the spacious reception area which reveals a first glimpse onto the abode’s very own water park. Yep, you read that right! Tucked between two of the blocks that houses the guest accommodation is a huge set-up of nine white-knuckle-ride waterslides daring you to hurtle down into the water reaching up to 60km/h in two seconds and experiencing a 360 degrees loop.

You may, by now, have gathered that the resort is massive – and it really is. With 656 suites sleeping up to four people each, when we arrived at BH Mallorca it was buzzing with revellers soaking up the sun and splashing about in the three swimming pools. Chance would have it that on this particular Wednesday, Made In Chelsea favourite Jamie Laing was hosting the weekly Stars pool party and had the crowd going wild in the sunshine, while stilt walkers and dancers in floating champagne glasses added an extra wow factor to the event. Our superior suite, complete with mini bar and our own lounge room, had a huge balcony from which we could overlook the action while getting ready for dinner. All rooms at BH Mallorca are refurbished to a 4* standard and come with complimentary WiFi, air conditioning and a large flat screen TV, a modern and fresh bolt hole to relax and recover in. The all-inclusive buffet dinner is served in the onsite restaurant which offers themed nights celebrating Italian, Asian, Arabian, Mexican, Indian, Spanish and classic Mallorquin cuisine.

Live music is a huge part of the BH Mallorca experience, bringing the finest international talent to the hotel’s festival size stage, with the month of August boasting bookings like of David Guetta (7th), Nicky Romero (9th) and the world’s number one DJ duo Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike (18th) rock the house. While we were gutted to miss Rudimental, who played just a few nights before our stay, we were excited to see Example perform on the huge courtyard space – called STAGE – that can hold thousands of partygoers. Warming up for the main man was local DJ talent Rashun Kerr, Craig Compton and Cristiano Fry, who got the crowd up and dancing with sets packed full of classic and current tunes. Just before 11pm, Example – supported by his wingman DJ Wire – took to the stage and was greeted by an enthusiastic roar of 2,000 revelers. The British singer went straight in with an energetic performance that saw him perform all of his classic hits including Kickstarts and Changed The Way You Kiss Me, getting the crowd to sing and dance along all the way through his set. Blasts from the ice cannon, as well as a huge explosion of confetti shot into the night sky, lifted the energy even further and of course, no one wanted to go home when the gig finished at midnight.

Luckily, temptation was just around the corner, with Magaluf’s renowned BCM Planet Dance nightclub just a skip and a hop away from the hotel and luring people in with what undoubtedly was going to be an epic live gig by Chase & Status. Having been lucky enough to watch the duo perform on the White Isle a few weeks earlier, we were first in line to secure a spot front of stage. The rip-roaring gig saw the producers tear through anthems like Let You Go, Lost & Not Found and Time, turning the club into a raucous but happy mosh pit! Sneaking out in the early hours, we were glad to fall into our comfy beds and dream of a another amazing day in Mallorca!
