It’s hard to believe that another season has almost been and gone. Seriously, it’s a massive cliché but when you live here it feels like you blink and as soon as you open your eyes July and August have disappeared in a puff of hedonistic, hard-working mist. It seems like yesterday that I was gearing up for all the opening parties, optimism in my eyes and a healthy flush in my cheeks, and now, here we are already, lamenting the end of another extraordinary Ibiza season. Anyway, instead of dwelling on the past months let’s look back on an event that always lights up the Ibiza calendar – the Hed Kandi closing party – which last night put on all-singing, all-dancing show, and successfully waved goodbye to another summer in customary stylish fashion.

Hed Kandi is a world famous brand that’s been synonymous with Ibiza for years. It epitomises the island’s happy go lucky vibe, its glamorous inhabitants and penchant for an upbeat party. And its found its perfect home at Es Paradis, the San Antonio club that’s as beautiful inside as the girls who adorn its podiums. So each year these two island veterans join forces to put on a party that’s about pure, unadulterated fun – people dress up, islanders turn out in force and everyone turns up in search of some soaring house tunes that’ll transport them to a place where all is right in the world.

The first thing you should do when going to Hed Kandi at Es Paradis is head for the mojito bar, because here is where you’ll find some of the finest on the island – take our word for it, and since this is the last foray we’ll have this season, it seems fitting to raise a rum-based toast to this most glitziest of parties. As is customary, there are beautiful girls gyrating on podiums, delivering mesmerising performances to the crowd below. And the tunes are peppered with soaring vocals that easily conjure a sense of collective euphoria among the crowd. Music throughout the night is coming thanks to Hed Kandi regulars Ben Santiago, Nathan Cozzetto and DJ Eibhlin, who over the course of the summer have got the needs of the Hed Kandi crowd down to a tee – Es Paradis is filled with a sea of smiling faces.

And it wouldn’t be Hed Kandi without an appearance from the much loved Lovely Laura, who’s saxophone skills are now a thing of legend. She theatrically appears bedecked in feathers to belt out a run of tunes that draws whoops of delight from her adoring fans below. It still defies belief that so much power can come out of a person as tiny as her, but that’s what makes her performances all the more stunning. She’s joined on the live performance front by Rocky, who beats percussion into the next decade – and while marvelling at this spectacle you realise this is what makes Hed Kandi stand out from the crowd – nothing puts on a show quite like it. And so the sun rises on another Hed Kandi extravaganza for the year and everyone goes on their way. If only you could bottle the good vibes that go with them to savour over winter.
