Cotton Lounge Club Opens In Style Posted on April 16, 2016 Words: Olivia Ebeling Images: La Skimal share this tweet this They’ve done it again! Surrounded by friends and family, restaurateurs Christian and Merete Marstrander opened the doors to a -quite literally – shiny new venue on Figueretas beach on the outskirts of Ibiza Town. Set to become the destination in an area that has not previously been known for the glamour that’s associated with other Ibizan beach areas, Cotton Lounge Club follows in the footsteps of its sister property Cotton Beach Club in leading the way for beautiful food in beautiful surroundings. Dazzling with pristine white interiors, the restaurant and lounge bar are spread across two floors, both styled as immaculately as its predecessor in Cala Tarida. When Essential Ibiza arrived, finishing touches were put into place by the ever-glamorous Merete, who wowed us by effortlessly carrying a huge vase of white lilies in her Valentino Rockstud killer heels. The attention to detail was evident in every corner of the venue; from the beautiful lampshades exposing vintage lightbulbs and succulent table decorations to an indoor fire encased in glass housing. We were instantly made to feel welcome, with our glass of champagne being topped up throughout the evening literally before the thought even crossed our minds. Greeted by a proud Christian, who invited us onto the spacious balcony overlooking the sea, we were wowed by the expansive views. “It’s a slow and beautiful start, just like it should be”, he told us, just as the sun broke through the clouds, “We still have a few tweaks to make but I’d be shocked if it doesn’t do well. With a view like this…” So can he really breathe new life into an area that has been neglected by the jet set crowd thus far? Looking at the two-storey property, which is as inviting as it is chic, it certainly seems that way. And, let’s not forget, he has done it before. Cala Tarida, a quiet resort near Sant Josep, was not exactly ‘on the map’ where fine dining and high-end glamour were concerned before Christian and Merete opened Cotton Beach Club and the adjacent FAY restaurant. He told us, “I couldn’t say that it [the success of the properties in Cala Tarida] hasn’t been encouraging, and I like to do difficult things. But someone has got to start and I think others will follow after this.” Fans of the original Cotton Beach Club will recognise the chain’s signature white-washed interiors, as well as little touches like pink orchids decorating the tables in the downstairs restaurant. And it certainly seems like this hotspot-to-be will attract plenty of new clientele as well, with many curious faces peaking into the venue as last night’s intimate gathering kicked into gear. With Mr Doris on the decks, who filled the space with chilled beats as we nibbled on a delicious section of canapés including Iberico ham on tomato bread, focaccia filled with marinated peppers, mini fried eggs on toast and a huge selection of sushi, the appeal of Cotton Lounge Club was undeniable. Head chef Bernat Gassol had curated a menu that represented the Mediterranean and FAY Asian cuisine the restaurant offers throughout the day, starting with breakfast and ending with after-hour snacks. We enjoyed mini burgers and coconut eby fry alongside a ‘five orange’ chicken, as well as a squid and scallop risotto. Rose wine and champagne kept flowing as we turned to desserts, which included a divine white chocolate soup, passion fruit cheesecake and gluten-free brownies. If this sounds like heaven already, guests were further spoiled with mini back rubs from the lovely Zen Massage ladies while taking in the beautiful sea views. Resident DJ Dalibor Dadoff took over the decks for his inaugural set and delivered the perfect tunes for a chilled, but vibrant opening night, followed by a live set from singer Gigi McFarlane. Officially open for (spectacular) service now, we can see many a leisurely afternoon or evening spent in this shiny new gem in Ibiza’s crown. Boldly going where no man has gone before seems to be paying off for Christian and Merete. share this tweet this
