Best Of Both Worlds At Savannah Ibiza Posted on June 13, 2017 Words: Rosie Wilson Images: La Skimal share this tweet this Summer is officially here and we don’t know about you, but we’re in holiday mode. Whether you were up until the small hours enjoying Ibiza’s famous nightlife or doing something much more chilled, I bet you can’t think of a much nicer way to start the day than with a hearty brunch overlooking the turquoise ocean, maybe with a cold beer or cocktail in hand. Savannah Ibiza has just the thing – and what’s more, the extensive and carefully-planned brand new brunch menu has something to suit every taste. Eclecticism is the order of the day at Savannah. Whilst the music playing was everything from Fleetwood Mac to Frank Sinatra to Lana Del Ray, the brunch menu encompasses everything from a delicate eggs florentine to a calorific club sandwich to a thoroughly modern banana pancakes with syrup and bacon. Regardless of who you’re visiting the White Isle with – your friends, your partner, your parents, your children – there’s something to please everyone here. And add to all that the fact that you’re sitting right on the front of the San Antonio bay, watching the boats on the water and listening to the soft lapping of the waves against the rocks, and it really does encapsulate the perfect holiday brunch-stop. Decorated simply and tastefully with white canopies and black table linen, Savannah lets the stunning scenery do the talking. Groups chatted happily over food and drink, and the atmosphere was incredibly easy and laid back. This probably classes as no-frills dining but, typically for the island, has an elegant twist about it. Before eating, we kicked things off with a couple of fresh smoothies – we tried the Tropical Holiday, which is a refreshing mix of pineapple, fresh mint, coconut and milk and tastes like a non-alcoholic piña colada, and an Energy Smoothie with açai, strawberries and orange juice. Both smoothies tasted healthy but quite hearty, giving you a proper vitamin hit. Seeing as it was technically the afternoon, we also had some wine, which felt particularly holiday indulgent when combined with traditional breakfast foods. When in Rome, right? The food we sampled was delightful. First up, we had a tortilla packed with serrano ham, mozzarella and rocket – this was super light and continental, perfect for someone just looking for a small bite to eat in the morning. The ham was salty and smokey, and the whole thing tasted healthy but still, thanks to the cheese, holiday indulgent. Also on the lighter end of the spectrum was eggs florentine, classic and served on toasted English muffins, eggs perfectly poached, spinach delicately wilted on top and laden with rich hollandaise. For the traditional holidaymakers who look for a home away from home, the full English breakfast is not to be missed. A ginormous plate full of toast, sausages, fried eggs, hash browns, grilled tomatoes and baked beans is not for the faint-hearted but certainly will stop any hunger – and homesickness – pangs in their tracks. For the vegetarians and vegans, the vegetarian option is just as appetising but a little lighter, with poached eggs, beans, tomato, hash browns, wilted spinach and half an avocado. Although we’d gone hell for leather on the English breakfasts, there were two more dishes to sample. The American-inspired banana pancakes with crispy bacon and maple syrup were beautifully cooked and presented, and the classic club sandwich from the brunch menu was served on white, sliced, toasted bread with a side portion of chips, just like you’d imagine. Head chef Tim Payne, who is new for this season having previously worked in several establishments on the island, explained some of the inspiration behind this: by offering Mediterranean, English, European and American dishes, he’s hoping to have created the ultimate people-pleasing menu. Hoping to establish itself as the return-brunch spot for holidaymakers in 2017 and beyond, he’s put the focus on quality ingredients, fuss-free presentation and plentiful options. Coupled with the stunning views, the cold drinks and the chilled, laid-back ambience – what more could you want from a brunch spot?
