John Digweed Looks Forward To Resistance Opening

As the Ibiza clubs teased us pre-season, releasing the various parties that would occupy their respective weekly nights, there was one announcement that immediately caught the attention coming from the Privilege camp. Ok, to be fair, there were two, but the declaration that famed US prom0ters Resistance would be making an Ibiza debut and that the residents for their party would be Sasha & Digweed had house and techno lovers the world over diving to make sure their passports were up to date!

Two titans of a scene that has evolved dramatically during their tenure, due in no small part to their dedication to consistently challenging musical parameters, Sasha & Digweed haven’t shared an Ibiza booth since 2009! They were long overdue for a reunion and under the trusted stewardship of Resistance, promoters they have worked with continuously in the US and now around the world – Ibiza is just 8 weeks of a global tour that takes the party to every continent – it all kicks off on Tuesday July 25.

It’s fair to say that Privilege has been somewhat of a sleeping giant in recent years, still dedicated to delivering quality, thought provoking and ultimately entertaining parties but never quite hitting the heights of its glory years, until this summer. The weekly schedule is packed with eye catching parties, all delivering mouth-watering line-ups. Tuesday night has already witnessed two roadblock Carl Cox parties and is set to continue with this monumental moment as two island favourites join forces once again. Expect a musical journey like no other, sound and light that will blow your mind and a series of guests that ensures top quality from the first to last beat. Ahead of the opening party on Tuesday July 25, we caught up with John Digweed to get an idea of what we should expect…

Resistance makes its Ibiza debut this summer, taking on Tuesday night in Privilege, what should we expect from the party?
Resistance is well known for laying on the best sound and visual productions around, so expect Privilege to look transformed when you enter. Plus, they have booked some of the best techno and house names to compliment the night perfectly.

The reunion of yourself and Sasha for the first seven shows has understandably captured the imagination; what are you looking forward to most from your new collaboration?
I think people always get a different party when we play together than when we play on our own, and we are working alongside some of the best promoters, sound and production guys as well as some amazing guest DJs. This night is about the combination of everything together, so people should arrive early and stay late. Sasha and myself want to deliver 110% on every gig to blow people’s minds and have them leaving the island with this as their standout night.

You must have had multiple residency invitations to play together in recent years, what makes Resistance the right party and now the right time to do it?
We have both worked with the Resistance promoters since they started in the USA and have seen that they don’t do things by half measures – they commit and they deliver. When they came to us and explained what they wanted to do and how they were going to do things in Ibiza, it seemed crazy to not be a part of something that could be so good.

How much did Privilege as the venue play in the decision to take on the Ibiza residency?
Well it’s been a sleeping giant for the last few years and it takes a big promoter to take on the challenge. I have the confidence that Resistance will turn Privilege into the go-to venue for Tuesday nights on the island.

As one of the iconic Ibiza venues, and one that arguably hasn’t been at its fighting weight in recent years, how much are you looking forward to being part of the vibrant new-look summer line-up?
I have always liked a challenge and have been playing on the island for many years and seen many club nights come and go. It’s always exciting to be a part of something new and also to be part of a very professional and committed team who want to make a big impact on the island.

The season line-up boasts a range of talented artists, who are you most looking forward to playing alongside and why?
There is so much to choose from and it’s tough to single out artists as they are all great in their own right. That’s why I said you should arrive early and leave late to make sure you catch all the amazing talent.

There’s also several Resistance tour dates around the world, do you get a chance to travel together or do other commitments mean you tend to meet each other in the booth?
We both live in different countries so we never start or leave to the same place, so we tend to meet up at the gigs these days.
