With regular sailings every week of the summer, and many of the boats selling out in advance, we thought it was time we spoke to one of the men behind the crazy party, resident DJ Cris Ruiz.

In Cris Ruiz, Oceanbeat Ibiza has a talented resident that understands more than most what it takes to establish a great Ibiza party. With experience in producing, booking, and as an agency operator, he brings many talents to the boat every time he plays. Having shared a DJ booth with heavyweights such as David Guetta, Ummet Ozcan, Yves V, Tom Novy and Erick Morillo, to name only a few, Cris Ruiz has an ability to deliver a truly Balearic vibe, using his vast musical collection and knowledge to take the Oceabeat Ibiza crowd to the point of musical ecstasy every time the ship sails.

Having played in iconic Ibiza venues such as Amnesia, Privilege and Sankeys Ibiza, Cris could be excused for being more at home on the super club environment but, as he admits himself, he loves being at the controls when the boat is at sea and he has a captive audience to weave his magic on. He regularly plays at the after party in famous beach bar Bora Bora, when the Oceanbeat Ibiza crew drops in after the sea party. You’ve played at many of the island’s iconic venues, alongside some of the biggest DJs, what is it about Ibiza that always produces an electric atmosphere?
The roots and history of the White Island is the main reason that makes people feel that electronic music belongs here! That makes for some amazing parties and great vibes.

At sea, OCEANBEAT Ibiza is known as one of the liveliest parties, what makes it so special?
It’s the way of life that OCEANBEAT Ibiza shares life, love and happiness. This results in a crazy party with crazy people and the way we share our love with the party crowd and the rest of the world.

The OCEANBEAT experience continues at Bora Bora, which do you prefer, in charge of the booth at sea or on the Playa d’en Bossa beach?
Of course i would always prefer the sea, because it’s the place where I feel free and the place where the whole family of OCEANBEAT feels satisfied and proud of what we worked hard for. Nevertheless, Bora Bora will always be something special!

You’ve just released your latest single ‘My Life’, was it inspired by your time in Ibiza?
Yes it has been inspired by everything Ibiza, from the first time that I arrived on the Island. It reflects me from the very first day, when i just woke up and my management told me, that i would play on the OCEANBEAT party Boat. How has it been received when you play it out?
The people go nuts on the boat and in different venues!

What was the first Ibiza dancefloor you found yourself on and who was playing?
The legendary Space Terrace with Tom Novy! 

What advice would you give to young DJs/ performers looking to make their mark in Ibiza?
Always keep going and work hard for it. Live your dream and do not dream your dreams.

Is it still possible to make your mark on your DJ talent alone, or does the modern DJ have to be a producer too and marketer?
It is always good to go with the time and never just stand by and watch how others do it. So being a DJ and a good producer at the same time and having your own ideas. It’s always good to have a love and passion of what you doing.
