Café Del Mar Eases Into 2017 Season Posted on April 13, 2017 Words: Iain Thomson Images: La Skimal share this tweet this It was a chilled local affair as Café Del Mar, one of the world’s most famous sunset spots, opened its doors for the first time this year. The sunsets strip basked in some early season rays, resulting in a spectacular sunset, setting the bar pretty high for what promises to be another big summer. As Ibiza eases into the long Easter weekend, the weather is doing the best impression of mid-June we’ve ever seen, until the sun disappears of course and the layers come out that is. Café De Mar’s promenade terrace was packed as islanders joined early tourists for dinner in the sun as the famous café delivered its customary sunset vibe. Having pretty much invented the genre of chill, watching the bright orange sphere light up the sky, turning it from blue to orange to black, accompanied by some of the most emotive tracks, has got to be one of the highlights of any Ibiza adventure. Colourful cocktails adorned every table, the menu was being well and truly tested as Café Del Mar celebrated its opening in a subtle almost subdued fashion, comfortable in the knowledge that it has a fun-packed summer to look forward to. Welcoming people from all over the island as well as a small but steady stream of tourists it went about its business as if it was the middle of the season already. The team is more than ready for the summer and slipped into its nightly routine as if it had never been away. The iconic island venue is used to being the hub as friends caught up with each other and looked forward to the forthcoming summer. The Café Del Mar residents took charge of the booth for the opening party as the original section of the much loved sea front destination welcomed guests for the first time. It’s the venue that has seen clubbers from all over the world gather to enjoy the end of the day together for 36 plus years. The new elevated terrace hosts a separate opening on April 28 but for now, it was a nostalgic throwback for many of those that had turned out to welcome Café Del Mar back for 2017. share this tweet this
