When you consider how successful the My House residency has been for Martin Solveig and Pacha, it’s easy to question what took so long for the talented Frenchman to take on his first Ibiza residency? A regular at the island’s iconic club, Martin Solveig played for various other parties previously but recent global commercial crossover chart success and his undoubted talent in the booth have made him one of the biggest attractions on the clubbing capital. Ibiza 2016 reinforced that fact with a summer filled with capacity parties as Wednesday night danced to his big room house sound.

After a summer that has seen numerous high profile international guests drop in to share the Pacha booth with Martin Solveig, closing responsibilities fell on Shadow Child and Billy Kenny, with Coco Cole and Creange completing the line-up. There is something about the closing party, the knowledge that it is the last chance to soak up the experience, that drives the Ibiza crowd even crazier than usual. There was an excitement in the queue as we waited to get in, an expectation level that we were about to witness something very special, and we weren’t disappointed.

The neon My House logo that has become so familiar shone though the smoky room, dancers in colourful 80s inspired costumes took to podiums and added their athletic, almost contortionist-like moves to proceedings as the packed room delivered an atmosphere fitting of the finale. Simon Neale, aka Shadow Child, has released some fantastic music on Dirt Bird, Toolroom and many other credible labels while Billy Kenny is another UK based artist that has grabbed headlines, both from his work in the studio and the booth and as a&r for label ‘This Ain’t Bristol’. Between them they worked the main room floor into a frenzy with a selection of chunky beats and driving basslines. The lighting enhances the mood further as warm reds and deep blues wash over the floor, and every now and then a bright white light hits the disco balls and sends shards of light in every direction.

The room is almost at boiling point when Martin Solveig appears in the booth, causing an instant roar from the capacity crowd as they recognise the main protagonist. He proceeded to take the room on a magical journey with anthem after anthem, creating numerous hands-in-the-air moments, the odd sing along and an almost consistent roar of approval from all and sundry. Confetti cannons explode after one monumental break down, as the crescendo comes to a climax and the tack bursts back into life a blizzard of sparkling confetti engulfs the floor. The huge screens at the back of the booth fired out messages of ‘Lets Dance’ and ‘Together!’, when they are not letting the furthest away corner of the club know who is in charge of the booth. It has been a fantastic summer for Martin Solveig and the My House crew, rounded off with one last roadblock, is it too early to be looking forward to Ibiza 2017?
