Martin Solveig Throws A Fun-Filled House Party

As we’re approaching September and, with some disbelief at how fast time has flown by, the first closing parties start to pop up in our calendar, the iconic party mecca that is Pacha Ibiza is showing no signs of slowing down. A night at the home of the twin cherries is full of glamour, fun and world class beats, and Martin Solveig’s latest My House gathering served up all of the above with a generous helping of French flair.

With a line-up that saw Danny Wade, Coco Cole, Busy P b2b Boston Bun, Cassius and, of course, the man of the night, Martin Solveig, all take to the decks on a night presented by Ed Banger Records, the good times were guaranteed and unsurprisingly the club was already filled with a keen crowd when we arrived. In the Funky Room, island-favourite residents Graham Sahara and Angel Linde were working their magic once more, providing a more intimate alternative to the whirlwind that was going off beneath them.

Wandering into the neon lit main room, which was decorated with electric pink and turquoise light installations, the atmosphere was happy and filled with good vibes, and we could feel the anticipation in the air. Gorgeous dancers clad in sexy swimsuits and oversized denim jackets, their hair teased into swishing braided ponytails, were gyrating on platforms, firing on the crowd on the busy dance floor.

Fellow French act Cassius had the honour of warming up for the main man, delivering an energetic set that was filled with house bangers on a progressive tip. Fat beats and loops, combined with samples of all-time classic hits of the genre, had the audience losing themselves in the music, visibly enjoying every moment. Escaping the heat of the dance floor for an expertly mixed cocktail on Pacha’s famous roof terrace, we enjoyed a little breather and a spot of people watching under the stars, admiring the seductive moves of a beauty throwing shapes in a giant water-filled martini glass, a classic Ibiza moment to witness.

Heading back inside just in time for Monsieur Solveig to arrive with his glamorous entourage, the atmosphere was building and building. When he finally took to the booth, he was greeted with a cheer of approval, which he promptly rewarded with a set of modern and infectious house tracks that had his adoring audience going mad. Dropping favourites of his own such as Intoxicated, as well as samples of chart toppers like Ellie Goulding and Azealia Banks smasher 212, the mixes were masterful and smart and kept the energy up for the duration of his set.

There were plenty of hands-in-the-air moments, with bursts of the ice canon providing some much needed refreshment on the buzzing dance floor. As the night headed into the early hours, Solveig’s offering took on a tech-house edge with plenty of teasing builds and climactic drops keeping up the pace. Forsaking over the top production and extravagant performances, the star DJ let the music do the talking, delivering a fun-filled set fuelled by good vibes. As one of the neon signs adorning the club read, baby, I like your style…
