Ibiza, in all it’s glorious, heady intensity, can be a lot to take in. In fact, a local once said to me that ‘one month here is like three months anywhere else’. If you fancy a night of simplistic escapism – getting dressed up, having a dance in earnest and escaping the crowds of the White Isle on a Saturday night – then maybe Boogie In Wonderland at Heart Ibiza is the place for you.

Last night was Heart Ibiza’s opening party for Boogie In Wonderland – and what a party it was! Even as you walk up to Heart on a Saturday night for their recurring party Boogie In Wonderland, the first thing that you hear is lively and melodic sounds of a saxaphone. Alien to the island and a far cry from the cripplingly cool DJs you quickly grow accustomed to here, it quickly sets the mood as upbeat, refreshing and completely infectious. Step inside and you’re greeted by a totally mad disco dance party; typically for Heart, the crowd is still über hip and chic, but the least intimidating way imaginable.

People are dancing – not bopping, or swaying – properly dancing. There’s space to move, but the place feels pretty full. Covers include songs from the likes of Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder, and the crowd is going wild for it – understandably, really. There’s confetti and disco lights projected onto the ginormous wall, and a gigantic, glittering crescent moon suspended from the ceiling. Have the disco balls always been here? I’m not sure, but they seem particularly apt tonight.

Heart really is the club of a thousand themes – this couldn’t feel more different to the intensely cool Saga on a Sunday night. The venue itself lends itself to the fun, light hearted vibe of Boogie In Wonderland really well. Everyone is friendly, chatty and having a brilliant time – after mooching around on my own for an hour and a half, I got chatting to people in the toilets, on the terrace and on the dancefloor – a personal record. And of course, it wouldn’t be a Heart party without the odd touch of the bizarre. A scantily-clad Adam-esque Adonis sashays around, posing for pictures with partygoers, while an androgynous, leather-clad glamazon cracks her whip as she perches delicately on a chez longue. At Heart, this is pretty much par for the course – visitors can always expect a touch of the delightfully whimsical, on any night of the week.

The terrace – decked out in a similarly neon and fanciful way – is incredibly chilled. The resident DJs appear to be having the time of their lives, swapping out of the booth to dance with the crowds. Elsewhere, people are sitting and chatting, drinking and laughing – it’s 2am and still 20 degrees, balmy and beautiful. There’s nothing more pleasant than feeling the breeze on your face at this time in the small hours, listening to brilliant music, enjoying a cold drink and soaking up the ambience.

Boogie in Wonderland will run every Saturday night in Heart all the way until October. If you’re looking for a little escapism on the White Isle, somewhere uninhibited to let your hair down, you ought to pay Boogie In Wonderland at Heart a visit. It might not be one for the hardcore tune-chasers or partyers, but I absolutely promise that you’ll have a brilliant time.
