Boutique Hostal Salinas, one of the island’s funkiest hotels, is releasing a long-awaited first album this summer, in celebration of its five year long contribution to Balearic hotel bliss. Boutique Hostal Salinas: Ibiza Summer Sessions is a three-disc extravaganza mixed by Salinas’ own, David Phillips and We Love Space residents PBR Streetgang, and the result is a combination of down-tempo daytime vibes and upbeat groove-laden house that’s due for release on Seamless Recordings on August 4.

An 11-room hideaway within touching distance of one of Ibiza’s hippest, most glamourous beaches, Hostal Boutique Salinas is often described as one of the island’s hidden gems. Owners Düsi Wolfmeir, Anita Dey and David Phillips are frequently lauded for their laid-back, welcoming ethos and hands-on approach – if you’re staying with them, you’re part of the gang – as well as their reputation for creating one of the coolest hang-outs in town. This year will also mark the 10th year of Lo Cura Lounge – the name of the outdoor terrace at the hotel and the group’s fortnightly El Salon party at We Love…at Space, marking a double opportunity for celebration in 2014. What better way to commemorate it than with a compilation mixed by one of its own and one of the most dynamic DJ duos on the scene?

Boutique Hostal Salinas co-owner and Space DJ extraordinaire, David Phillips takes control of CDs 1 and 2. Citing his inspiration over the years as everything from punk to ska to psychedelia, Phillips brings an eclectic vibe to the mix. With CD1 the pace is unhurried and thoughtful, evoking the mood of a lazy afternoon at Lo Cura Lounge with the sun blazing – he channels Balearic beats and takes you on a journey from “West Coast rock to Weatherall dub techno to indefinable indie gems from the present day”. CD2 sees an altogether more boogie-centric approach – according to Phillips himself, it’s the unmistakable sound of “Lo Cura Lounge by night”, and is in tribute to the world’s DJs who have passed through, played and inspired while playing at and visiting the bar. It’s guaranteed to get you up on your feet and ready for the night ahead.

Taking the helm of the third and final instalment is Leeds duo, Bonar Bradberry and Tom Thorpe, aka PBR Streetgang. They first came to the attention of Boutique Hostal Salinas crew thanks to their residency at We Love… where they made an impression that stuck. Years later and not only are they guest mixers on the hotel’s induction into the album world, but Bradberry chose it as the place to tie the knot too. Clearly this was a relationship that was meant to last. Unsurprisingly for a pair with a residency at one of the world’s top clubs under their belts, they weave their unique and far-reaching magic across everything from disco to house to funk; keeping you enthralled every step of the way, and ensuring the album goes out with a bang. The ultimate sound of summer that will take you seamlessly from day to night, Boutique Hostal Salinas: Ibiza Summer Sessions is an essential for a season that’s still unfolding – it’s the soundtrack for all Ibiza stands for, and all that’s still to come.
